José Luandino Vieira
José Luandino Vieira (born José Vieira Mateus da Graça on 4 May 1935) is an Angolan writer of short fiction and novels. Biography Vieira was born in Lagoa de Furadouro, Ourém, Portugal to impoverished parents—his father was a cobbler, his mother a homemaker from a peasant background—who immigrated to Angola in 1938. He grew up immersed in the African quarters (''musseques'') of Luanda. He wrote in the language unique to the ''musseque'', a fusion of Kimbundu and Portuguese language, Portuguese. Vieira left school at the age of fifteen and worked as a mechanic. He became a literary protegé of the older poet António Jacinto and a collaborator of António Cardoso, another working-class white Angolan writer of his generation.' Marcello Caetano
Marcelo José das Neves Alves Caetano (; 17 August 1906 – 26 October 1980) was a Portuguese politician and scholar. He was the second and last leader of the Estado Novo after succeeding António Salazar. He served as prime minister from 1968 to 1974, when he was overthrown during the Carnation Revolution. Early life and career He was the son of José Maria de Almeida Alves Caetano and his first wife Josefa Maria das Neves. Richard Zenith
Richard Zenith (born 23 February 1956, Washington, D.C.) is an American-Portuguese writer and translator, winner of the Prémio Pessoa, Pessoa Prize in 2012. Life Richard Zenith graduated from the University of Virginia in 1979. He has lived in Colombia, Brazil, France and, since 1987, in Portugal. He is a naturalised Portuguese citizen. Zenith is widely considered to be one of the foremost experts on the Portuguese writer Fernando Pessoa. Zenith has translated many of Pessoa's works into English and he has written extensively about Pessoa's poetry, prose and life. He has also translated Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Antero de Quental, Sophia de Mello Breyner, Nuno Júdice, António Lobo Antunes, and Luís de Camões, amongst other Portuguese-language writers. Published by Heinemann (publisher), Heinemann, 359 books appeared in the series between 1962 and 2003. Mário Pinto De Andrade
Mário Coelho Pinto de Andrade (21 August 1928 – 26 August 1990) was an Angolan poet and politician. Biography He was born in Golungo Alto, in Portuguese Angola, and studied philosophy at the University of Lisbon and sociology at the Sorbonne in Paris. While there, he became active in opposing Portuguese colonial rule of Angola, and wrote anti-colonial poetry. In 1955, he took part in the founding of the Angolan Communist Party. In 1956, he was the founder of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) and was elected its first President in 1960. His brother, Joaquim Pinto de Andrade, was made the MPLA's first honorary President. He married the French filmmaker Sarah Maldoror and worked with her on ''Sambizanga'', a 1972 film about the Angolan liberation movement.
