José Guilherme Reis Leite GC IH ( Angra do Heroísmo, 25 December 1943 — ), is a professor, historian and Azorean politician, whose functions included his role as Regional Secretary for Education and Culture, deputy and President of the Legislative Assembly of the Azores, in addition to representative for the Azores in the Portuguese National Assembly. Career José Guilherme Reis Leite was educated in History at the Faculty of Letters at the University of Lisbon, before obtaining his doctorate in Modern and Contemporary History from the same institution.IAC (2009) He completed his dissertation, ''Política e Administração dos Açores de 1890 a 1910 - O Primeiro Movimento Autonomista'' (''The Politics and Administration of the Azores from 1890 to 1910: The First Autonomy Movement''), under the orientation of professor António Henrique de Oliveira Marques. António dos Santos Ramalho Eanes, GColL GCL GColTE CavA GCB RVC (; born 25 January 1935) is a Portuguese general and politician who was the 16th president of Portugal from 1976 to 1986. Background Born at Alcains, Castelo Branco, he is the son of Manuel dos Santos Eanes, a general contractor, and wife Maria do Rosário Ramalho. Political career After a long military career in the Portuguese Colonial Wars, he was stationed in Portuguese Angola when the 25 April revolution of 1974 took place. He joined the Movimento das Forças Armadas (MFA or Armed Forces Movement) and after returning to Portugal, he was made president of RTP (Portuguese public television). He ordered the military operations against the pro-communist radical faction of the MFA on 25 November 1975, an event known as the 25 de Novembro, ending that year's "hot summer" (''Verão quente''). The Historical Institute of Terceira, or literally the ''Historical Institute of the Island of Terceira'' ( pt, Instituto Histórico da Ilha Terceira), or IHIT, is a private association and cultural institute, dedicated to the investigation and studying of the islands of the Azores. The institute is headquartered in the classical '' Convent of São Francisco'' (''Convent of Saint Francis of Assis'') in Angra do Heroísmo. It was established by like-minded individuals in 1942, who founded that institute in order fill a gap in the archipelago's legal charter, the ''Estatuto dos Distritos Autónomos das ilhas Adjacentes'' (1940–47).
