Josh Wardle is a Welsh software engineer who developed the viral web-based word game ''Wordle''. The New York Times Company acquired ''Wordle'' from Wardle in late January 2022. Wardle lives in Brooklyn, New York. Early life and education Wardle is from South Wales, and was brought up on an organic livestock farm in Llanddewi Rhydderch, a small village near Abergavenny. He attended university at Royal Holloway, University of London and earned a degree in Media Arts. A few years later, he moved to the United States to attend the University of Oregon, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts in Digital Art. Royal Holloway, University of London (RHUL), formally incorporated as Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, is a public research university and a constituent college of the federal University of London. ''The New York Times'' Spelling Bee, or simply the ''Spelling Bee'', is a word game distributed in print and electronic format by ''The New York Times''. Created by Frank Longo, the game debuted in a weekly print format in 2014, with a digital daily version with an altered scoring system launching on May 9, 2018. Gameplay The game presents players with a grid of 7 letters arrayed in a honeycomb structure. The player scores points by using the letters to form words consisting of four or more letters. r/place was a collaborative project and social experiment hosted on the social networking site Reddit on April Fools' Day 2017 and repeated again on April Fools' Day 2022. The 2017 experiment involved an online canvas located at a Reddit#Subreddits, subreddit called ''r/place''. Registered users could edit the canvas by changing the color of a single pixel with a replacement from a 16-color palette. After each pixel was placed, a timer prevented the user from placing any more pixels for a period of time varying from 5 to 20 minutes. The idea of the experiment was conceived by Josh Wardle. The experiment was ended by Reddit administrators about 72 hours after its creation, on 3 April 2017. Satan Shoes were a series of custom Nike Air Max 97 shoes, created in 2021 as a collaboration between musician Lil Nas X and MSCHF, an art collective. Their design and marketing gained controversy through prominent satanic imagery. Nike, Inc. sued MSCHF for trademark infringement, false designation of origin, trademark dilution, and unfair competition.
