Joseph Kergueris
Joseph Kergueris (born 2 October 1938) was a member of the Senate of France, who represented the Morbihan department. He is a member of the Centrist Union. Biography Joseph Kergueris began his political career as mayor of Landévant in 1971. Known for his skills in conference management as member of the Union for French Democracy (UDF), Kergueris was elected senator on 23 September 2001, representing the Morbihan Department. In 2004, he was elected president of the Morbihan County Council, succeeding Jean-Charles Cavaillé, president since 1998. Former member of the UDF, he stressed non-affiliation with the Democratic Movement1. He belonged to the pilot committee of Gather the Centrists, a club ran by his senate colleague Jean Arthuis, which became part of the Centrist Alliance in 2009. The Senate (french: Sénat, ) is the upper house of the French Parliament, with the lower house being the National Assembly, the two houses constituting the legislature of France. Jean Arthuis (born 7 October 1944 in Saint-Martin-du-Bois, Maine-et-Loire) is a French politician. Over the course of career, he has held various ministerial positions and served as Member of the European Parliament from France, where he chaired the Committee on Budgets. He also serves as Senator representing Mayenne in the French Parliament. He is the President of the Centrist Alliance political party and was a member of the ALDE group in the European Parliament. The Democratic Movement (french: link=no, Mouvement démocrate, ; MoDem, ) is a centre to centre-right political party in France that is characterised by a strong pro-European stance. MoDem was founded by François Bayrou to succeed the Union for French Democracy (UDF) and contest the 2007 legislative election, after his strong showing in the 2007 presidential election. Initially named the Democratic Party (''Parti démocrate''), the party was renamed "Democratic Movement", because there was already a small Democratic Party in France.
