Jonathan Shaughnessy
Jonathan Shaughnessy is a Canadian curator in the field of contemporary art. In 2022, he was made Director, Curatorial Initiatives at the National Gallery of Canada. He is also an Adjunct Professor with the Department of Visual Arts at University of Ottawa. Career Jonathan Shaughnessy received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art History from Concordia University in 2001 and his Masters of Communications from Carleton University in 2004. Shaughnessy has worked with numerous Canadian and international artists. As Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art, he curated ''One, Some, Many: 3 Shows by Carsten Höller'' at Shawinigan Space in Shawinigan, Quebec in 2007. This was the artist's first solo exhibition in Canada. Curator
A curator (from la, cura, meaning "to take care") is a manager or overseer. When working with cultural organizations, a curator is typically a "collections curator" or an "exhibitions curator", and has multifaceted tasks dependent on the particular institution and its mission. In recent years the role of curator has evolved alongside the changing role of museums, and the term "curator" may designate the head of any given division. Sarah Sze
Sarah Sze (; born 1969) is an American artist widely recognized for challenging the boundaries of painting, installation, and architecture. Sze's sculptural practice ranges from slight gestures discovered in hidden spaces to expansive installations that scale walls and colonize architectures. Sze's work explores the role of technology and information in contemporary life utilizing everyday materials. Drawing from Modernist traditions, Sze's work often represents objects caught in suspension. Sze lives and works in New York City and is a professor of visual arts at Columbia University. Cai Guo-Qiang
Cai Guo-Qiang (; born 8 December 1957) is a Chinese artist who currently lives and works in New York City and New Jersey. Biography Cai Guo-Qiang was born in 1957 in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, China. His father, Cai Ruiqin, was a calligrapher and traditional painter who worked in a bookstore. As a result, Cai Guo-Qiang was exposed early on to Western literature as well as traditional Chinese art forms. As an adolescent and teenager, Cai witnessed the social effects of the Cultural Revolution first-hand, personally participating in demonstrations and parades himself. Martin Honert
Martin Honert (born 1953) is a German artist based in Düsseldorf. He is known for making veristic sculptures of memories or images related to his childhood. Work Honert was born in Bottrop, West Germany and attended the Staatliche Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1981-1988, taking his master class with Fritz Schwegler in 1985. Many of his sculptures recall the readymades of Marcel Duchamp, often changing their scale. Drawings the artist made as a child of Santa Claus were transformed into a life-sized sculpture for his 2004 show at Matthew Marks (Catalogue Raisonné no. 43). Liz Magor
Liz Magor (born 1948) is a Canadian visual artist based in Vancouver. She is well known for her sculptures that address themes of history, shelter and survival through objects that reference still life, domesticity and wildlife. She often re-purposes domestic objects such as blankets and is known for using mold making techniques. Biography Magor was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1948. Magor studied at the University of British Columbia from 1966-1968, and Parsons School of Design in New York from 1968-1970. Irene Whittome
Irene F. Whittome, is a multimedia artist. Life Whittome was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on March 4, 1942. She attended the Vancouver School of Art, and then spent five years studying printmaking at Stanley William Hayter's ''Atelier 17''. From 1968 to 2007, Whittome taught visual art in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Concordia University. Michael Snow
Michael Snow (born December 10, 1928) is a Canadian artist working in a range of media including film, installation, sculpture, photography, and music. His best-known films are ''Wavelength'' (1967) and '' La Région Centrale'' (1971), with the former regarded as a milestone in avant-garde cinema. Bharti Kher
