Jonathan Lynam is a Gaelic footballer who plays for The Downs and at senior level for the Westmeath county team. He got given his first start for Westmeath when they played Kildare in the 2022 O'Byrne Cup. He was put in for his first start in the 2022 National League against Wicklow in the first game. Come season end he could count himself as a Tailteann Cup champion. He was a target of the foul that lowered Laois numbers down to 14 because it got a second yellow card in the first Tailteann Cup game. The Downs Gaelic Athletic Association (''Na Dúnta Cumann Lúthchleas Gael'') is a Gaelic football and ladies' Gaelic football club located in County Westmeath, Ireland. The club is located in The Downs, a community east of Mullingar. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). 2022 O'Byrne Cup
The 2022 O'Byrne Cup was a Gaelic football tournament played by eleven county teams of Leinster GAA in January 2022; Kilkenny did not take part. Longford were the holders. A new rule limits the number of substitutions a team can make; players taken off cannot return, capping the number of changes at 11. were the winners. The opening round game between Meath and Wicklow was called off, with Wicklow infected by COVID-19. Competition format The eleven teams are drawn to play in two groups of four teams and one group of three teams. Each team plays the other teams in their group once. The Tailteann Cup is a second tier Gaelic football championship competition held annually since 2022 and organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is contested by those county teams who do not qualify for the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship and the winner is awarded the Tailteann Cup. The Westmeath Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition organised by Westmeath GAA between the top Gaelic football clubs in County Westmeath.
