Khalid Mahmud Mithu
Khalid Mahmood Mithu (1960 – March 7, 2016) was a Bangladeshi film director and painter. He won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Director for his direction of the film '' Gohine Shobdo'' (2010). Background and career Mithu was born in Dhaka in 1960. His mother, Begum Momtaz Hossain Mithu, was a ''scriptwriter''. He was the nephew of the film director Alamgir Kabir. Mithu completed his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree from Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka in 1986. He directed his play, ''Dhusor Album'', in 1993. In 2010, he directed the film, '' Gohine Shobdo'', which earned him the national film award. Bangladesh has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 2002. The award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. It was not created until the 1956 Academy Awards, in which a competitive Academy Award of Merit, known as the Best Foreign Language Film Award, was created for non-English speaking films, and has been given annually since. Seventeen Bangladeshi films have been submitted for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but none of them have been nominated for an Oscar. This is a list of submissions to the 87th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of a number of countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. It is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length film produced outside the United States with primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process, reviewing all films submitted. For the 87th Academy Awards, held on 22 February 2015, a submitted motion picture must be released theatrically in its respective country between 1 October 2013 and 30 September 2014. Submission of a film does not automatically qualify it for the competition; AMPAS has the final word on eligibility, and has disqualified submissions in the past. Sheikh Mohammed Sultan ( bn, শেখ মহম্মদ সুলতান; 10 August 1923 – 10 October 1994), popularly known as S M Sultan, was a Bengali decolonial artist who worked in painting and drawing. His fame rests on his striking depictions of exaggeratedly muscular Bangladeshi peasants engaged in the activities of their everyday lives. Sultan's early works were influenced by western technics and forms, particularly impressionism, however, in his later works particularly, works exhibited in 1976, we discover there is a constant temptation to decolonize his art technics and forms.
