John Fleming (1900–1961), better known as Johnny Brown and sometimes as Hamilton Johnny Brown, was a Scottish boxer who was an amateur champion at featherweight and British welterweight champion in 1925. Career From Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Fleming first found success as an amateur, winning the East of Scotland title in 1919 and the ABA featherweight title in 1920, before turning professional later that year, fighting under the name Johnny Brown. Although lacking a knockout punch, Brown's speed and skill brought him considerable success. He won all of his fights between 1920 and 1922, including victory over Jim Gilmour to take the Scottish lightweight title in June 1922, leading to a shot at the British and European lightweight titles in January 1923 against Seaman Nobby Hall in which Brown's Scottish title was also at stake; Hall took a 20-round points decision. Philip Hickman (18 July 1902 – 1 July 1976), who fought under the name Johnny Brown, was an English Jewish bantamweight boxer of the 1920s, though he fought some as a feather and lightweight. Born in Spitalfields, London he won the National Sporting Club (NSC) (subsequently known as the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC)) British bantamweight title, British Empire bantamweight title, and European Boxing Union (EBU) bantamweight title. Texas Johnny Brown, born John Riley Brown (February 22, 1928 – July 1, 2013) was an American blues guitarist, songwriter and singer, best known for his composition "Two Steps from the Blues". In a lengthy career, he worked with Joe Hinton, Amos Milburn, Ruth Brown, Bobby Bland, Lavelle White, Buddy Ace and Junior Parker. He was born in Mississippi, but his long association with Houston, Texas, gave him his stage name. Before his death, Allmusic noted that Brown "remains one of the more immovable veterans dotting the inexplicably low-key Houston blues landscape". Johnny Brown (born 13 May 1943) is an Australian former rugby league footballer, who played in the 1960s and 1970s. An Australian international and Queensland interstate representative halfback, he played his club football in the Brisbane Rugby League premiership for Norths, with whom he won the 1968 Rothmans Medal and the 1969 premiership. Having previously played in Mount Morgan and Ipswich, Brown was selected to represent Queensland and moved to the BRL, playing with Norths. In 1967 he was named the club's player of the year and appeared in the grand final loss to Brothers. in 1969 he was again named the Norths club's player of the year, won the Rothmans medal, for best and fairest player in the premiership and also captained the grand-final winning Norths team. Johnny Brown (born May 15, 1963) is a retired American basketball player and long-time college basketball assistant coach. He played power forward at the University of New Mexico from 1984 to 1986 and played professionally for five seasons. He has been an assistant coach for over twenty years at several schools, currently at University of the Incarnate Word. Playing career Brown went to Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles, then spent his first two years of college at Loyola Marymount University. As a freshman in 1981–82 he averaged seven points and six rebounds, and as a sophomore he averaged 12.5 points and led the team with 8.7 rebounds a game.
