John Waddell (politician)
John William Waddell (15 March 1891 – 15 March 1939) was an Australian politician. He was born at Singleton to Robert Waddell, Clerk of Petty Sessions, and Martha Ann, ''née'' Smith. He was educated at Maitland and then at Hawkesbury Agricultural College, before spending time on his uncle's station in Western Australia. In 1912 he joined the Queensland Insurance Company and became a manager at Launceston in Tasmania, before moving to Madras, India, in 1915. On 2 October 1920 he married Ella Wallingford, with whom he had two children. From 1920 to 1926 he was manager of the New India Assurance Company at Calcutta; he travelled around Europe before returning to Australia in 1927. Active in the All for Australia League, he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 1932 as the United Australia Party member for Waverley and served until his death in 1939. Clarrie Martin
Major Clarence Edward Martin (2 February 1900 – 5 September 1953) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1930 until 1932 and from 1939 until his death in 1953. He was variously a member of the Australian Labor Party (NSW), the Industrial Labor Party and the Labor Party (ALP). He was the Attorney General of New South Wales from 1941 until 1953 and also held the position of Minister for Transport for six months prior to his death. Early life Martin was born in Ballarat, Victoria and was the son of a miner. He was educated at state schools in Broken Hill, New South Wales and was orphaned at an early age. He initially worked in the Broken Hill mines but continued his education privately. At age 17 he moved to Sydney, underwent teacher training and taught in state schools in rural NSW while continuing part-time studies in economics at the University of Sydney. William Clementson
William Alfred Clementson (19 July 1884 – 19 August 1982) was an Australian politician. He was a Labor Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1930 to 1932, representing the electorate of Waverley. Clementson was born at Chippendale, and was educated to primary level before becoming a pastoral worker. He began working as a tram driver in 1909, and later worked as a transport inspector. He was an active trade unionist, serving on the executive of the Australian Tramway and Motor Omnibus Employees' Association from 1912 until 1929 and serving as its federal vice-president for a time. He was also involved within the Labor Party, serving as branch president and secretary, and serving on its state executive from 1927 until 1929. Graham Waddell
Sir Charles Graham Waddell (7 January 1877 – 7 April 1960) was an Australian politician. He was born in Orange to bank manager Colonel George Walker Waddell and Fanny Elizabeth Sharpe. He attended Sydney Grammar School and worked as a bookkeeper and overseer near Adelong before becoming a grazier at Bethungra. He was president of the Graziers' Association from 1925 to 1928 and chairman of the Australian Woolgrowers' Council from 1925 to 1935. In 1927 he was knighted. In 1936 he was elected to a 12 year term as a Country Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Council, serving from 1937 until 1949. Waddell died at Potts Point in 1960 (aged ). The premier of New South Wales is the head of government in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Thomas Waddell
Thomas Waddell (1 January 1854 – 25 October 1940), an Australian politician, was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1887 to 1917, was briefly the premier of New South Wales during 1904, and was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 1917 to 1934. His 75 days in office marks the shortest tenure of any New South Wales premier. Early life He was born in County Monaghan, Ireland, son of John and Ann Waddell and was brought to Australia when a few months old. He grew up near Lake George, New South Wales, northeast of Canberra and was educated at Collector public school and at George Metcalfe's High School, Goulburn. Electoral District Of Waverley
Waverley was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales, originally created in 1894, with the abolition of multi-member constituencies, out of part of Paddington, and named after and including the Sydney suburb of Waverley. In 1904 Waverley lost part of the seat to Randwick and was expanded to include parts of Woollahra and Randwick. In 1920, with the introduction of proportional representation, it was absorbed into Eastern Suburbs. Waverley was recreated in 1927. In 1959 parts of Waverly and Paddington were combined to form Paddington-Waverley, which was abolished in 1962 and replaced by Bligh. In 1971, Bondi and Randwick were abolished and partly replaced by a recreated Waverley.
