John Uff
John Francis Uff CBE KC (born 30 January 1942) is an international arbitrator, advocate, engineer and academic. He graduated from King's College London (BSc (Eng); PhD) and was called to the Bar at Gray's Inn in 1970 where he was made a bencher in 1993 and Treasurer in 2011. He was the founding Director of the Centre of Construction Law & Dispute Resolution and Nash Professor of Engineering Law at King's College London from 1991 to 2003. He was Chairman of the Public Inquiry into the Southall rail crash which took place between 1997 and 1999. He retired from the Nash chair at King's College London in 2003 and was made an Emeritus Professor there. He was Vice-President of the London Court of International Arbitration from 2003 to 2008 and President of the Society of Construction Arbitrators from 2004 to 2007. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Recommendations for appointments to the Order of the British Empire were originally made on the nomination of the United Kingdom, the self-governing Dominions of the Empire (later Commonwealth) and the Viceroy of India. King's Counsel
In the United Kingdom and in some Commonwealth countries, a King's Counsel ( post-nominal initials KC) during the reign of a king, or Queen's Counsel (post-nominal initials QC) during the reign of a queen, is a lawyer (usually a barrister or advocate) who is typically a senior trial lawyer.
