John Thomas Wilson
John Thomas Wilson (April 16, 1811October 6, 1891) was a soldier, attorney and U.S. Representative from Ohio, serving three terms from 1867 to 1873. Biography Wilson was born in the village of Bell in rural Highland County, Ohio. As a child, he received a limited schooling and did not have a higher education. He engaged in mercantile and agricultural pursuits. Civil War During the American Civil War, he was appointed as the first lieutenant of Company E, Seventieth Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry on November 2, 1861. He was discharged as a captain on November 27, 1862. Congress He was a member of the Ohio Senate from 1863 to 1866 and was elected as a Republican to the Fortieth, Forty-first, and Forty-second Congresses (serving from March 4, 1867 until March 3, 1873). Ohio's 11th Congressional District
Ohio's 11th congressional district encompasses portions of Cuyahoga County in the Northeast part of the state—including most of the majority-black precincts in Cleveland. It has been represented by Shontel Brown since 2021. Ohio has had at least 11 congressional districts since the 1820 census. The district's current configuration dates from the 1990 census, when most of the old 21st District was combined with portions of the old 20th District to form the new 11th District. Much of Akron was added to the district when the congressional map was redrawn after the 2010 census, when Ohio lost two seats in the House of Representatives. With a Cook Partisan Voting Index of D+28, it is Ohio's most Democratic district and the most Democratic district in the Midwest outside Chicago. Adams County is a county in the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the population was 27,477. Its county seat is West Union. The county is named after John Adams, the second President of the United States. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has an area of , of which is land and (0.4%) is water. It includes many parks and preserves, including one of Ohio's greatest archeological wonders, the Serpent Mound at the Serpent Mound State Memorial in Locust Grove. The Ohio Senate is the upper house of the Ohio General Assembly. The State Senate, which meets in the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, first convened in 1803. Senators are elected for four year terms, staggered every two years such that half of the seats are contested at each election.
