John Spence Community High School
John Spence Community High School (formerly Preston High School) is a co-educational secondary school located in Preston (near North Shields) in Tyne and Wear, England. It is a foundation school administered by North Tyneside Council. John Spence Community High School offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils. The school was also awarded specialist Sports College status in 2001 and continues to offers sports as a specialism. The school also offers adult education courses through the North Tyneside Adult Learning Alliance. Foundation School
In England and Wales, a foundation school is a state-funded school in which the governing body has greater freedom in the running of the school than in community schools. Foundation schools were set up under the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 to replace grant-maintained schools, which were funded directly by central government. Grant-maintained schools that had previously been voluntary controlled or county schools (but not voluntary aided) usually became foundation schools. The Animals
The Animals (also billed as Eric Burdon and the Animals) are an English rock band, formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in the early 1960s. The band moved to London upon finding fame in 1964. The Animals were known for their gritty, bluesy sound and deep-voiced frontman Eric Burdon, as exemplified by their signature song and transatlantic number-one hit single "The House of the Rising Sun" as well as by hits such as "We Gotta Get Out of This Place", " It's My Life", "Don't Bring Me Down", "I'm Crying", "See See Rider" and "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood." Hilton Valentine
Hilton Stewart Paterson Valentine (21 May 1943 – 29 January 2021) was an English skiffle and rock and roll musician who was the original guitarist in The Animals. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and into Hollywood’s Rock Walk of Fame in 2001 with the other members of The Animals. Following The Animals' breakup in 1966, Valentine produced several solo albums including ''All in Your Head'' (1969) and ''It’s Folk ‘N’ Skiffle, Mate! (''2004). Matthew Parr (figure Skater)
Matthew Parr (born 1 March 1990) is an English former competitive figure skater. He is a four-time British national champion (2009–10, 2013–14). Career Parr began competing on the ISU Junior Grand Prix series in 2004. He made his senior international debut at the 2008 Golden Spin of Zagreb. Following the 2009 European Championships, Parr was named as the British entry for the 2009 World Championships, replacing Elliot Hilton, but Hilton won a lawsuit against the National Ice Skating Association and was restored to the team. Parr competed at the 2009 World Junior Championships in Sofia, the 2010 European Championships in Tallinn, and 2010 World Championships in Turin. Stephen Murray (BMX Rider)
Stephen Murray (born 9 January 1980) is an English former BMX Dirt rider. Biography On Friday 22 June 2007, at the AST Dew Tour BMX Dirt Finals in Baltimore, Murray took a catastrophic fall attempting a double backflip on the final jump in the dirt section. He suffered career-ending injuries to his spinal cord and vertebrae, and became paralyzed below the shoulders. Reports have shown that he can shrug his shoulders, move his toes, his index fingers, and his thumbs. Murray was a seven-time expert British champion and six-time UK National champion before the age of 16. During his professional BMX career, he was known for his double back flips, 360 back flips, and turndown back flips. Matthew Ben Longstaff (born 21 March 2000) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder. He is currently a free agent, having most recently played for Newcastle United. Sean David Longstaff (born 30 October 1997) is an English professional footballer who plays for Premier League club Newcastle United as a midfielder. Samuel Thomas Fender (born 25 April 1994) is an English singer, songwriter, and musician. He is known for his high tenor voice and thick Geordie accent, layered over music characterised by a roots-orientated rock approach. Fender's sound relies primarily on his traditional American musical upbringing combined with a classic British rock sensibility. Sports Colleges are senior secondary schools which promote sports alongside secondary education. United Kingdom Sports Colleges were introduced in 1997 as part of the Specialist schools programme, Specialist Schools Programme in the United Kingdom. The programme enabled Secondary education#England, Wales and Northern Ireland, secondary schools to Specialist school, specialise in certain fields, in this case, Physical education, PE, sports and dance. Schools that successfully applied to the Specialist Schools Trust and became Sports Colleges received extra funding from this joint private sector and government scheme.
