John R. Lindgren
John R. Lindgren (February 20, 1855 – April 29, 1915) was an American banking executive. Biography John Richard Lindgren was born in Chicago, Illinois, the only son of Charles Magnus Lindgren, a Swedish-born ship captain and vessel-owner of Chicago. With Helge Alexander Haugan, Lindgren established the banking firm of Haugan & Lindgren in 1879. During 1889, Lindgren was the principal founder of the Bank of Galesburg in Galesburg, Illinois. In 1891, he was elected cashier and vice president of the State Bank of Chicago. For many years Lindgren held a membership in the Chicago Board of Trade, as well as the Chicago Stock Exchange. Lindgren was appointed Vice Consul of Sweden and Norway at Chicago in 1893. King Oscar II
Oscar II (Oscar Fredrik; 21 January 1829 – 8 December 1907) was King of Sweden from 1872 until his death in 1907 and King of Norway from 1872 to 1905. Oscar was the son of King Oscar I and Queen Josephine. He inherited the Swedish and Norwegian thrones when his brother died in 1872. Oscar II ruled during a time when both countries were undergoing a period of industrialization and rapid technological progress. His reign also saw the gradual decline of the Union of Sweden and Norway, which culminated in its dissolution in 1905. In 1905, the throne of Norway was transferred to his grandnephew Prince Carl of Denmark under the regnal name Haakon VII. Order Of Vasa
The Royal Order of Vasa () is a Swedish order of chivalry, awarded to citizens of Sweden for service to state and society especially in the fields of agriculture, mining and commerce. It was instituted on 29 May 1772 by King Gustav III. It was unrestricted by birth or education and could therefore be awarded to anyone (as opposed to the Order of the Polar Star, which was intended as a reward for the learned professions). It was the most junior of all the Swedish orders. It was often awarded to Norwegian subjects of the dual monarchy until Oscar I founded the Norwegian Order of St. Olav in 1847. Since 1974 the order is no longer conferred: officially it has been declared as "dormant", along with the Order of the Sword. Charles Magnus Lindgren (November 28, 1819 - September 1, 1879) was a Swedish born, American shipping executive. He was a pioneer in the Lake freighter, Great Lakes shipping industry. Background Charles Magnus Lindgren was born near Dragsmark Abbey, Dragsmark in Uddevalla Municipality in the traditional Province of Bohuslän, in Västra Götaland County, Sweden. He went to sea at the age of 14. In 1849, he went to the California Gold Rush, California gold fields where he engaged in the freight traffic. Career In 1852, Lindgren entered into a railway project together with the Bishop Hill Colony and settled in 1854 in Henry County, Illinois, a few miles from Galva, Illinois, Galva. In 1856, Lindgren came to Chicago, bought a couple of freight vessels and contracted with a lumber company for shipping lumber from Michigan to Chicago. In 1860 he engaged in shipping.
