John Stephen Parr (born 18 November 1952) is an English musician, singer, and songwriter, best known for his 1985 single "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)", charting at number one in the US and number six in the UK, and for his 1984 US number-six rock single " Naughty Naughty". He has written and performed ten major motion-picture theme songs, including ''Three Men and a Baby'' and '' The Running Man''. Parr has sold over 10 million albums and was nominated for a Grammy award for "St. Elmo's Fire" in 1985. Biography Parr was born in Worksop, England, in 1952. He first entered the music scene when he was 12 years old and formed a band with two fellow schoolmates, which they named The Silence. The band had achieved some success. They eventually became professional and started to tour Europe. John Parr (20 December 1725, Dublin, Ireland – 25 November 1791, Halifax, Nova Scotia) was a British military officer and governor of Nova Scotia. He is buried in the crypt of St. Paul's Church (Halifax). Early life and military service Parr was born in Dublin, Ireland as part of the Anglo-Irish aristocracy that had settled on the island during the 17th century and attended Trinity High School. At the age of 19 he joined the British Army's 20th Regiment of Foot as an ensign, and saw service in the War of the Austrian Succession. A subaltern officer, he was with the Prince William, Duke of Cumberland and his army as it marched through Scotland against Charles Stuart's Jacobite rising at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. In 1755 he became adjutant to James Wolfe, the colonel of the 20th Regiment of Foot. In 1759, during the Seven Years' War he was wounded at the Battle of Minden and spent six months in hospital. John Parr (died 1798) was an English gun maker, Mayor of the Borough of Liverpool in 1773. Life He was the son of John Parr of Rainford, who married in 1713 Joan Horton, daughter of Joshua Horton of Chadderton. The family were gun makers and shipowners involved in the Atlantic slave trade. In 1751 Parr was recruited as an agent for the Birmingham firm of Farmer & Galton, by James Farmer, partner of Samuel Galton Jr.. He took over a role selling guns on commission under John Hardman. In this business relationship with Farmer and Galton, he also took on the "battery trade", another aspect of the hinterland commerce dealing in small copper and brass items. In 1752 he was listed with Hardman as an African Company of Merchants founding member. The gun trade presented particular difficulties of long credit required by customers, and Galton chased Parr to collect payments. Parr and Fee was an architectural partnership in Vancouver, Canada that functioned from 1899 to 1912. John Edmeston Parr John Edmeston Parr (1856-1923) was born in London, England, the son of architect Samuel Parr. After attending preparatory school in Gravesend, England, he articled in his father’s firm, Parr & Strong. He later become a partner and the firm’s name was changed to Parr, Strong & Parr. Parr left England in approximately 1888, living in Los Angeles, Seattle, Winnipeg, and Victoria, before settling in Vancouver in 1896. He opened a solo practice in Vancouver in 1896, and in 1897 formed a partnership with Samuel Maclure (1860-1929). Private John Parr (30 July 1897 – 21 August 1914) was an English soldier. He is believed to be the first soldier of the British Empire to fall in action during the First World War. Early life Parr was born to Edward and Alice Parr at Lichfield Grove, Finchley, now in the London Borough of Barnet but still in the historic County of Middlesex. His father was a milkman. He lived most of his life at 52 Lodge Lane, North Finchley. Many of his siblings died before their fourth birthday. Upon leaving school, he took a job working as a butcher's boy, and then as a caddie at North Middlesex Golf Club. John Wayne "The Gunslinger" Parr (born 25 May 1976), also known as JWP, is a retired Australian Muay Thai fighter, kickboxer and boxer, fighting out of Boonchu Gym in Gold Coast, Queensland. He is a former 10-time World Champion and was the runner up on ''The Contender Asia''. Biography Early life Wayne Parr began training in taekwondo at the age of 11. Wayne competed in the Queensland titles at QE2 Stadium, where he won a silver medal after winning 2 fights and losing the final in 1988.
