John Merryweather
John William Merryweather (25 May 1932 – 24 September 2019) was an Aruban landscape architect and politician. He served as the first Minister Plenipotentiary of Aruba from 1986 until 1989. Biography Merryweather was born on 25 May 1932 in Aruba, as the son of British father and an Aruban mother. He went to high school in Jamaica and the United States. He studied at the Loughborough University in England, and specialised in landscape architecture in the United States. In 1952, Merryweather started to work in the oil industry. In 1961, he became head of the park service in Aruba. In 1962, he became the Aruban representative of the newly formed National Park Agency (then STINAPA, nowadays CARMABI). In 1969, he became head of the Curaçaoan park service. In 1978, he became head of the Aruban tourism agency. Minister Plenipotentiary Of Aruba
The Minister Plenipotentiary of Aruba ( nl, Gevolmachtigde Minister van Aruba) represents the constituent country of Aruba in the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The current Minister Plenipotentiary of Aruba is Guillfred Besaril. The Minister Plenipotentiary and his cabinet are seated in the Arubahuis (Aruba House) in The Hague. A significant difference between the Netherlands ministers and the Ministers Plenipotentiary is that the former ministers are accountable for their politics and policies to the Dutch parliament. The Ministers Plenipotentiary, however, are accountable to their national governments, which is the Estates of Aruba in case of Aruba. Therefore, the Ministers Plenipotentiary usually do not resign in the event of a Dutch cabinet crisis. The Order of the Netherlands Lion, also known as the Order of the Lion of the Netherlands ( nl, De Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw, french: L'Ordre du Lion Néerlandais) is a Dutch order of chivalry founded by King William I of the Netherlands on 29 September 1815. The Order of the Netherlands Lion was until recently awarded to eminent individuals from all walks of life, including generals, ministers of the crown, mayors of large towns, professors and leading scientists, industrialists, high-ranking civil servants, presiding judges and renowned artists. Since 1980 the Order has been primarily used to recognise merit in the arts, science, sport and literature; others are awarded the Order of Orange-Nassau. ''Koningsdag'' () or King's Day is a national holiday in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Celebrated on 27 April (26 April if the 27th is a Sunday), the date marks the birth of King Willem-Alexander. When the Dutch monarch is female, the holiday is known as ''Koninginnedag'' () or Queen's Day and, under Queen Beatrix until 2013, was celebrated on 30 April. The holiday was initially observed on 31 August 1885 as ''Prinsessedag'' or Princess's Day, the fifth birthday of Princess Wilhelmina, then heir presumptive to the Dutch throne. On her accession in November 1890 the holiday acquired the name ''Koninginnedag'', first celebrated on 31 August 1891.
