John McIntyre (hurler)
John McIntyre (born 1961 in Lorrha, County Tipperary) is an Irish hurling manager and former player. He is the former manager of the Galway senior hurling team. An effective centre-back, McIntyre enjoyed a relatively successful playing career at club level with Lorrha–Dorrha and at inter-county level with Tipperary. He was a member of the latter team for a number of seasons in the 1980s, when Tipperary were going through an uncharacteristic drought in terms of championship success. After his playing days ended McIntyre gained notoriety as a manager and coach at all levels. A successful stint as coach working alongside manager Billy McGrath of the Clarinbridge club team in Galway followed his first term as manager of the Offaly senior hurling team in the 1990s. Lorrha–Dorrha GAA
Lorrha–Dorrha GAA is a Tipperary GAA club which is located in County Tipperary, Ireland. Both hurling and Gaelic football are played in the "North Tipperary" divisional competitions. The club is centred on the parish of "Lorrha & Dorrha". The club is most famous for Hurling Team of the Millennium goalkeeper Tony Reddin, who played with the club from 1947 to 1957. Ken Hogan, who is a former manager and goalkeeper of Tipperary GAA, also played with Lorrha as did the heroes of the 1971 All-Ireland Championship team, Liam King and Noel Lane. In more recent times, John Madden was the club's representative on the team which won All-Ireland honours in 1989 and 1991. Birr GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Birr in County Offaly, Ireland. The club is almost exclusively concerned with the game hurling and is one of the most successful hurling clubs in the country. Ballygunner GAA
Ballygunner GAA (nicknamed "The Gunners") is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club located in the parish of St Mary's Ballygunner in Waterford City, Ireland. The are the current All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship title holders. The club, which is exclusively concerned with hurling, is one of the most successful in Waterford. It has won 20 county titles and produced many great players for Waterford such as Paul Flynn, Fergal Hartley, Billy O'Sullivan and Pauric Mahony. Ballygunner has an intense rivalry with fellow city club Mount Sion and for many years in the 1990s and 2000s the two dominated the club scene. Since 1992, Ballygunner have won 17 county titles. Four Roads GAA
Four Roads Hurling Club are a hurling club from Co. Roscommon. They are the most successful team in the history of the Roscommon Senior Hurling Championship with 34 titles. They also won the Connacht Senior Club Hurling Championship in 1977 due to a walkover from Kiltormer and again 1988 when they defeated Abbeyknockmoy on a scoreline of 3-5 to 1-8. On both occasions of representing Connacht at the All-Ireland semi-final stage, they encountered Wexford opposition. First up was the star-studded Rathnure side of 1978 where they put in an impressive performance before going down by 2-20 to 2-8, and in 1989 they suffered defeat on a scoreline of 2-19 to 0-9 to eventual champions Buffers Alley. Connacht Senior Club Hurling Championship
The Connacht Senior Club Hurling Championship was an annual hurling tournament played between the senior hurling clubs in Connacht contested from 1970 until 2007 when it was discontinued due to a lack of meaningful opposition for the Galway champions. The Galway champions now qualify directly for the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship semi-final. Throughout the competition's existence the Galway champions automatically qualified for the final. In 2007, the competition's final year, this competition was won by Portumna from Galway. The competition had long since become a formality for the Galway teams. The Mayo and Roscommon champions now compete in the Connacht Intermediate Club Hurling Championship. Darragh Coen
Darragh Coen (born 1975) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a right corner-forward for the Galway senior team. Born in Clarinbridge, County Galway, Coen first played competitive hurling in his youth. He enjoyed championship success at under-age levels with the Clarinbridge club. Landers subsequently joined the Clarinbridge senior team and won one Connacht medal and one championship medal. Coen made his début on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Galway minor team. An All-Ireland medal winner in this grade, he later lined out with the under-21 team with whom he also enjoyed All-Ireland success. Coen joined the senior team during the 1997 National Hurling League. St. Mary's, Athenry is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Athenry in County Galway, Ireland. In men's competitions, the club is a dual club competing in both Gaelic football and hurling at various age levels. Galway Senior Hurling Championship
The Galway Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Brooks Galway Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Galway County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1887 for the top hurling teams in the county of Galway in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer and autumn months with the county final currently being played at Pearse Stadium in November. Initially played as a knock-out competition, the championship currently consists of a group stage followed by a knock-out series of games. Noel Sheehy
Noel Sheehy (Nollaig Mac an tSÃthigh) (born 5 December 1964) is an Irish retired hurler. His league and championship career with the Tipperary senior team lasted twelve seasons from 1985 to 1997. Sheehy first appeared for the Sivermines club at juvenile and underage levels, before eventually joining the club's adult team. After winning five divisional intermediate championship medals, he ended his club career by winning a county intermediate championship medal in 1999. Sheehy made his debut on the inter-county scene when he was selected for the Tipperary minor team. He enjoyed two championship seasons with the minor team, culminating with the winning of an All-Ireland medal in 1982. Sheehy subsequently joined the under-21 team, winning an All-Ireland medal in 1985. He subsequently joined the Tipperary senior team, making his debut during the 1985-86 league. Tony O'Sullivan (hurler)
Anthony "Tony" O'Sullivan (born 7 January 1963) is an Irish retired hurler and Gaelic footballer who played as a right wing-forward for the Cork senior hurling team. Born in Farranree, Cork, O'Sullivan first played competitive Gaelic games during his schooling at the North Monastery. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Cork minor teams as a dual player before later joining the under-21 sides. He made his senior hurling debut during the 1982 championship. O'Sullivan immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won three All-Ireland medals, seven Munster medals and one National Hurling League medal. Seán O'Leary (25 February 1952 – 1 December 2021) was an Irish hurler who played as a left corner-forward at senior level for the Cork county team.
