John Martin Breit
John Martin Breit (January 28, 1910 – October 6, 1981) was a major general in the United States Air Force. Breit was born in San Antonio, Texas. He attended the U.S. Military Academy from 1929 to 1933. Military career In 1928, Breit first enlisted in the Texas National Guard and was made a first sergeant. The following year, he entered the U.S. Military Academy on a National Guard appointment. Upon graduation in 1933, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant and his first assignment was as company commander in the 34th Infantry at Fort Meade, MD. In 1939, Breit was ordered to Pettit Barracks, Zamboanga, Philippine Islands. While there, he commanded a company of Philippine Scout soldiers of the 45th Infantry. Major General (United States)
In the United States Armed Forces, a major general is a two-star general officer in the United States Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Space Force. A major general ranks above a brigadier general and below a lieutenant general. The pay grade of major general is O-8. It is equivalent to the rank of rear admiral in the other United States uniformed services which use naval ranks. It is abbreviated as MG in the Army, MajGen in the Marine Corps, and in the Air Force and Space Force. Major general is the highest permanent peacetime rank in the uniformed services as higher ranks are technically temporary and linked to specific positions, although virtually all officers promoted to those ranks are approved to retire at their highest earned rank. A major general typically commands division-sized units of 10,000 to 15,000 soldiers. Army Ground Forces
The Army Ground Forces were one of the three autonomous components of the Army of the United States during World War II, the others being the Army Air Forces and Army Service Forces. Throughout their existence, Army Ground Forces were the largest training organization ever established in the United States. Its strength of 780,000 troops on 1 May 1942 grew to a peak of 2,200,000 by 1 July 1943. Thereafter its strength declined as units departed for overseas theaters. Douglas MacArthur
Douglas MacArthur (26 January 18805 April 1964) was an American military leader who served as General of the Army for the United States, as well as a field marshal to the Philippine Army. He had served with distinction in World War I, was Chief of Staff of the United States Army during the 1930s, and he played a prominent role in the Pacific theater during World War II. MacArthur was nominated for the Medal of Honor three times, and received it for his service in the Philippines campaign.
