John Lement Bacon
John Lement Bacon (June 18, 1862 – April 27, 1909) was a Vermont banker, businessman and politician who served as State Treasurer. Early life John L. Bacon was born in Chelsea, Vermont on June 18, 1862. He attended school in Chelsea, and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy. In 1881 he began a career in banking at the First National Bank of Chelsea of which his father was President, and he became Cashier in 1883. Early career A Republican, Bacon served as Orange County Treasurer from 1884 to 1885. When the National Bank of White River Junction was organized in 1886, Bacon relocated to Hartford and was appointed Cashier (while Maxwell Evarts was President), and held this position until his death. From 1891 to 1898 Bacon served as Hartford's Town Treasurer. From 1892 to 1893 he served in the Vermont House of Representatives. Maxwell Evarts (November 15, 1862October 7, 1913) was an American lawyer and politician. Early life and education Maxwell Evarts was born on November 15, 1862, in New York City, the youngest of the twelve children of Helen Minerva (Wardner) and William M. Evarts. He attended St. Paul's School, Concord, New Hampshire. He graduated from Yale College, 1884, where he was a member of Skull and Bones. After graduation, he studied for two years at Harvard Law School, and was then in the law office of Seward, DaCosta & Guthrie until summer 1889. Joseph Marsh (January 12, 1726February 9, 1811) was a Vermont officer in the American Revolution and a government leader who served as lieutenant governor of Vermont. Biography Joseph Marsh was born in Lebanon, Connecticut on January 12, 1726. He moved to Hartford, Vermont in 1772 and was a prominent farmer, landowner and businessman. Marsh took part in the American Revolution, commanding a militia regiment as Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel, and took part in the garrisoning of Fort Ticonderoga after its capture from the British, as well as the Battle of Bennington. In 1777 he took part in the New York Provincial Congress. (At the time, authority over Vermont was the subject of dispute between New Hampshire and New York).
