John Jennings (Australian Politician)
John Thomas Jennings, (19 December 1878 – 20 December 1968) was an Australian politician. Born in Melbourne, he attended state schools before becoming a retailer of dental supplies. He underwent military service from 1899 to 1901 and served in South Africa during the Second Boer War with the Victorian Mounted Rifles. In 1931, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the United Australia Party member for South Sydney in New South Wales. South Sydney was abolished in 1934 and replaced with Watson; Jennings contested Watson and won. Division Of South Sydney
The Division of South Sydney was an Divisions of the Australian House of Representatives, Australian Electoral Division in the States and territories of Australia, state of New South Wales. It was located in the south of the city of Sydney. The Division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 75 divisions to be contested at the 1901 Australian federal election, first Federal election. At the redistribution of 1 August 1934, it was abolished and replaced by the Division of Watson (1934–1969), in honour of Hon Chris Watson, the first Australian Labor Party, Labor Prime Minister of Australia and South Sydney's second member. Doug Jennings (politician)
Douglas Bernard Jennings (30 October 1929 – 9 April 1987) was an Australian politician and businessman. Born in Melbourne to Albert Victor Jennings, founder of the property development company A.V. Jennings, he left Melbourne Grammar School to join his father's firm in 1947, and worked in several areas of the organisation. In the late 1950s he became mostly involved in the Housing Division in Melbourne, but also encouraged the company to branch out into real estate and furnishings. When Jennings ran into hard times in the early 1960s, Doug Jennings came in for criticism and left the company. After time spent in Queensland as the owner operator of the Mount Surprise Cattle station, he returned to Victoria and established a Brahman stud at Moorooduc. Arthur Moverly
Arthur Henry Moverly (15 March 1887 – 4 April 1956) was an Australian politician. Born at Gulgong, the son of publican John Moverly, he attended Cleveland Public School and Sydney Technical College before being apprenticed to a builder. He went to the United States in 1907 and studied in Chicago, New York and San Francisco before returning around 1912 and settling at Randwick. On 18 March 1916 he married Elsie Beatrice Whitting, with whom he had three children. A Randwick councillor from 1922 to 1937, he was mayor from 1931 to 1932. Moverly also served on the Metropolitan Water, Sewerage and Drainage Board (1927–56, vice-president 1933) and the State Housing Improvement Board (1937).
