Arthur Moverly
Arthur Henry Moverly (15 March 1887 – 4 April 1956) was an Australian politician. Born at Gulgong, the son of publican John Moverly, he attended Cleveland Public School and Sydney Technical College before being apprenticed to a builder. He went to the United States in 1907 and studied in Chicago, New York and San Francisco before returning around 1912 and settling at Randwick. On 18 March 1916 he married Elsie Beatrice Whitting, with whom he had three children. A Randwick councillor from 1922 to 1937, he was mayor from 1931 to 1932. Moverly also served on the Metropolitan Water, Sewerage and Drainage Board (1927–56, vice-president 1933) and the State Housing Improvement Board (1937). Gulgong, New South Wales
Gulgong is a 19th-century gold rush town in the Central Tablelands and the wider Central West regions of the Australian state of New South Wales. The town is situated within the Mid-Western Regional Council local government area. It is located about north west of Sydney, and about 30 km north of Mudgee along the Castlereagh Highway. At the 2016 Census, Gulgong had a population of 2,521. Today, much of the 19th-century character of the town remains, contributing to its appeal as a tourist destination. Of special interest is the Prince of Wales Opera House, a survivor with a rich history. An attraction of note is the ''Gulgong Pioneer Museum'', which has a huge collection of thematically-displayed exhibits, ranging from kitchen utensils to complete buildings that have been relocated to a "street" on the site. William Gollan
William McCulloch Gollan (15 June 1885 – 4 October 1968) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1941 until 1962. He was a member of the Labor Party. He held numerous ministerial positions between 1953 and 1959. Early life Gollan was born in Woodburn, New South Wales and was the son of a farmer, John Gollan. He was educated at Lismore Public School and initially worked as a bush worker in rural New South Wales. After several years abroad in South Africa, he later lived in Sydney and owned various businesses including a chain of butcher shops and hotels. Gollan was the owner of the Gollan Hotel in Lismore, where Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip stayed one night on 9 February 1954 during their Australian tour. Jack Flanagan (Australian Politician)
John Flanagan (11 July 1888 – 3 March 1949) was an Australian politician. He was a Labor Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1930 until 1932, representing the electorate of Randwick. Early years Flanagan was born at Queanbeyan, and was a painter by trade. He worked at the Eveleigh Workshops from 1912 until 1917, when he was dismissed after taking part in the Australian General Strike of 1917. He was reinstated in March 1919, but resigned two months later to become state secretary of the Amalgamated Coachmakers' Association, a role he held until his election to parliament. Political career Flanagan was the Labor candidate for Randwick at the 1927 state election, but was defeated by Nationalist Ernest Tresidder. In 1930, he won the seat on his second attempt, defeating Tresider with a massive swing as Labor won office under Jack Lang. John Thomas Jennings, (19 December 1878 – 20 December 1968) was an Australian politician. Born in Melbourne, he attended state schools before becoming a retailer of dental supplies. He underwent military service from 1899 to 1901 and served in South Africa during the Second Boer War with the Victorian Mounted Rifles. In 1931, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the United Australia Party member for South Sydney in New South Wales. South Sydney was abolished in 1934 and replaced with Watson; Jennings contested Watson and won.
