John Heath (cricketer, Born 1891)
John Stanley Heath (30 August 1891 – 1 September 1972) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Europeans cricket team, Europeans in India in 1918/19 and for Derbyshire County Cricket Club, Derbyshire in 1924 and 1925. Heath was born at Swadlincote, Derbyshire. He played minor counties cricket for Staffordshire County Cricket Club, Staffordshire from 1911 to 1914. He made his first-class debut in 1918 playing for Europeans in the Bombay Quadrangular tournament in India when he achieved his best bowling performance of 5 for 33 against Hindus cricket team, Hindus and also 5 for 40 against Parsees cricket team, Parsees. In 1920 he was back with Staffordshire, for whom he played until he joined Derbyshire in 1924. He also played two games for H. D. G. Leveson Gower's XI in 1921. Swadlincote
Swadlincote is a former mining town in the district of South Derbyshire, England, lying within The National Forest area. It borders the counties of Leicestershire and Staffordshire, south-east of Burton upon Trent and north-west of Ashby-de-la-Zouch, and south-west of Derby. It also covers Newhall, Oversetts, Midway and the villages of Church Gresley and Woodville, with the sub-district of Goseley. It has a population of some 36,000. The Parsis (''aka'' Parsees) cricket team was an Indian first-class cricket team which took part in the annual Bombay Quadrangular, Bombay tournament. The team was founded by members of the Zoroastrianism, Zoroastrian community in Bombay. It is affiliated to Mumbai Cricket Association. Many players of Parsis cricket team played for Mumbai cricket team, India national cricket team. Bombay Quadrangular The Parsis competed in the Bombay tournament from its outset in 1877, when they challenged the Europeans cricket team at the Bombay Gymkhana to a two-day match. At this time, the competition was known as the Bombay Quadrangular, Presidency Match. It was recognised as a first-class tournament from 1892–93 until its final staging in 1945–46. Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1925 was the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for fifty four years. It was their twenty seventh season in the County Championship and they won five matches to finish fourteenth in the County Championship. 1925 season Guy Jackson was in his fourth season as captain. All the club's twenty-four first class matches were in the County Championship. The team recovered from a poor season in the previous year with five wins, but with fewer draws the high number of losses left the team in fourteenth place. Garnet Lee was top scorer in his first season as a first-class player for Derbyshire. Arthur Morton took most wickets with 63. The most significant addition to the side was Garnet Lee who was to prove a valuable all-rounder over the next few years. It was their twenty sixth season in the County Championship and they failed to win a match, finishing seventeenth in the County Championship. 1924 season Guy Jackson was in his third season as captain. After a steady rise since in the championship table since the low point of 1920, the team slumped to the bottom again in 1924 without winning a match. Bombay Quadrangular
The Bombay Quadrangular was an influential cricket tournament held in Bombay, British India between 1892–93 and 1945–46. At other times it was known variously as the Presidency Match, Bombay Triangular, and the Bombay Pentangular. Presidency Match The Quadrangular tournament had its origins in an annual match played between the European members of the Bombay Gymkhana and the Parsis of the Zoroastrian Cricket Club. The first such game was played in 1877, when the Bombay Gymkhana accepted a request for a two-day match from the Parsis. The game was played in good spirit, with the Parsis surprising the Europeans by taking a first innings lead. The Gymkhana recovered, but the match was drawn with the sides evenly poised.
