John H.C. McGreevy
John H. C. McGreevy (1913–2004) was a member of the Order of Canada in 1988 and a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal. He was a leading figure in the Anglophone community of Quebec City, rewarded for his community service and recognized for his military service in the Second World War as prisoner of war for four years while serving as a lieutenant with the Royal Rifles of Canada in Hong Kong Educated at Bishop's College School from 1923 to 1931, where he was head boy and literary editor of the magazine, he pursued a career as an accountant with McDonald Currie, a precursor firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers and where he was a partner in their Quebec City office. Literary And Historical Society Of Quebec
The Literary and Historical Society of Quebec (LHSQ) was the first historical society, and one of the first learned societies, in Canada. It was founded in 1824 by George Ramsay, Earl of Dalhousie, governor of British North America. Its headquarters are still located in Quebec City. After several moves and two fires, the Society settled into the northern wing of Quebec City's Morrin College in 1868. The College closed at the turn of the 20th century but the Society stayed on, eventually taking over the entire building in 2004. The Society's original aims were encyclopaedic, being founded in the infancy of Canada's cultural and intellectual development. The Society gathered historical documents about Canada and republished many rare manuscripts. Research in all fields of knowledge was actively encouraged. Maurice Pollack (January 28, 1885 – December 16, 1968) was a Canadian businessman and philanthropist. Early life Pollack was born in Kanele, Kiev, in Ukraine into a Jewish family. He arrived in Canada in 1902, and settled in Quebec City. The Anglican Diocese of Quebec was founded by Letters Patent in 1793 and is a part of the Ecclesiastical Province of Canada of the Anglican Church of Canada, in turn a province of the Anglican Communion. In 1842, her jurisdiction was described as " Canada East" or "Lower Canada" (technically an historical term in 1842). The diocese comprises 720,000 square kilometres and took its present shape in 1850 with the carving off of what is now the Diocese of Montreal.
