John Friedrich (actor)
John Friedrich (born March 15, 1958) is an American film actor. Career A character actor of the 1970s and early 1980s, John Friedrich is probably best known for his portrayal of Joey Capra in '' The Wanderers'' (1979), Philip Kaufman's film adaption of Richard Price's novel. A familiar face on television throughout the '70s, Friedrich made guest starring appearances on the police drama series, ''Baretta'', and ''The Streets of San Francisco''. He also had a strong supporting role in the John Travolta telefilm, ''The Boy in the Plastic Bubble''. In 1984 Friedrich played the lead role of Marshall Weatherly in '' The Paper Chase'' episode "Not Prince Hamlet". In 1978, he appeared in two films; the much-criticized disco film, '' Thank God It's Friday'', and the school comedy '' Almost Summer''. A year later he was cast as Joey in '' The Wanderers''. Johann Friedrich Hohenberger OAM (7 September 195027 July 1991), also known as John Friedrich, was executive director of the National Safety Council of Australia (Victorian Division) during the 1980s. He was the subject of Victoria's biggest fraud case and known as "Australia's greatest conman". Early life and career Hohenberger was a West German national. In August 1972, he began working as an independent contractor with the German road construction company Strassen und Teerbau. Around July 1974, he forged road building orders from distant mountain towns and used them to order Strassen und Teerbau to build roads. No roads were ever built, and no earthworks or materials were ever bought. Hohenberger embezzled 200,000 DM from the company. Hohenberger was on a skiing holiday in Italy at the time German police issued a warrant for his arrest. John Friedrich (1858–1943) was a German-born violin maker who worked in the United States. Biography Friedrich was born 26 June 1858 at Kassel. He was a pupil of Oswald Möckel, a prominent German violin maker and repairer. Friedrich came to the United States in 1883, and in a short time ranked among the American leaders in his profession. His older brother William (1855–1911) joined him soon and they established the company "Friedrich, John, & Bro." on 5th Avenue in New York City. In addition to violins, Friedrich also made bows, violas, and violoncellos. He received the highest award bestowed for violins, violas, and violoncellos at the World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago, 1893. One of his violins was also granted the highest awards, Grand Prize and gold medal, at the St Louis World's Exposition in 1904.
