John Fitzpatrick (athlete)
John Richardson Fitzpatrick (March 21, 1907 – July 9, 1989) was a Canadian athlete who competed in the 1928 Summer Olympics. Background Fitzpatrick was born on March 21, 1907, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to John Duncan Fitzpatrick and Agnes Elizabeth Willson. While enrolled at the University of Toronto, he was a member of the intercollegiate championship team in 1927. He completed a degree in engineering at the University of Toronto, graduating in 1933. In 1934, he married Grace Cowan, the daughter of Hugh Cowan and the sister of James Alexander Cowan, in Toronto. They had two sons, John McGillivray Fitzpatrick and Murray Alan Stuart Fitzpatrick. Career After serving briefly with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, he went on to work at Shell Canada researching diesel engines and fuels. John FitzPatrick, 2nd Earl Of Upper Ossory
John FitzPatrick, 2nd Earl of Upper Ossory FRS DL (2 May 1745 – 13 February 1818), styled 'Lord Gowran' from 1751 to 1758, was an Irish peer and member of parliament. Biography John FitzPatrick was born on 2 May 1745, the son of John FitzPatrick, 1st Earl of Upper Ossory, and Lady Evelyn (née Leveson-Gower; daughter of John Leveson-Gower, 1st Earl Gower). He had a younger brother Richard, who also became a noted statesman and soldier, and two younger sisters, Mary and Louisa. He succeeded to his father's title of earl of Upper Ossory in 1758 but as this was a title in the Irish peerage it did not entitle him to a seat in the British House of Lords. In 1767 he was instead elected to the House of Commons for Bedfordshire, a seat he held until 1794. He was also Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire from 1771 to 1818. John Joseph Fitzpatrick (October 12, 1918 – July 15, 2006) was a Canadian-born prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Miami in Florida from 1968 to 1971 and as the third bishop of the Diocese of Brownsville in Texas from 1971 to 1991. John Clement Fitzpatrick (August 10, 1876 – February 10, 1940) was an archivist and an early American historian, widely regarded as an authority on George Washington. He was noted for his groundbreaking work editing Washington's diaries and many letters and documents. Appointed by the ''George Washington Bicentennial Commission'' he prevailed over the editorship in his acclaimed 39 volume work, ''The Writings of George Washington'', published between 1931 and 1944. His involvement during this prolonged effort set many of the standards for the management of manuscripts in the Library of Congress. Fitzpatrick died before all the volumes had been published. He belonged to a number of historical societies while also earning honorary degrees from several prominent universities. John Bernard Fitzpatrick (November 1, 1812 – February 13, 1866) was an American bishop of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Bishop of Boston from 1846 until his death in 1866. Early life and education Fitzpatrick was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to parents who came to the United States from King's County (County Offaly), Ireland, in 1805. His father was a tailor and his maternal grandfather served in a Massachusetts regiment during the American Revolution. After attending local primary schools, he was a pupil at the Boston Latin School from 1826 to 1829, during which time he distinguished himself for his studies and virtue. At the suggestion of Bishop Benedict Joseph Fenwick, S.J., Fitzpatrick then enrolled at Petit Seminaire, run by the Sulpician Fathers, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. John Fitzpatrick (Fairfield, Vermont, May 1, 1844 – April 8, 1919) was an American mayor of New Orleans from April 25, 1892, to April 27, 1896. Early life Fitzpatrick was born in Fairfield, Vermont when his mother was on a visit to the city. At the age of six months he was brought to New Orleans, Louisiana where he was raised. He later became an orphan, along with his two brothers James and Michael Fitzpatrick and were given shelter in the St. Mary's Orphan Asylum. He received his education in the Louisiana public schools and started his career as a newspaper boy then moving onto being a carpenter. John FitzPatrick, 1st Earl of Upper Ossory (1719 – 23 September 1758) was an Anglo-Irish nobleman who lived in County Cork, Ireland. He was the son of Richard FitzPatrick, 1st Baron Gowran, and Anne ( Robinson) and educated at Queen's College, Oxford. He succeeded his father as 2nd Baron Gowran in 1727 and his mother to the estates of Farmingwoods (now Fermyn Woods), Northamptonshire and Ampthill, Bedfordshire in 1744. He was created Earl of Upper Ossory in the Irish peerage on 5 October 1751. He was MP for Bedfordshire from 1753 to 1758.
