John E. Herlitz
John Eric Herlitz (December 30, 1942 – March 24, 2008) was an American industrialist most commonly known for his styling of cars at Chrysler Corporation, particularly the Plymouth Barracuda production car and Dodge Copperhead concept car. Early life John Herlitz was born to Swedish immigrants in Pine Plains, New York. At 13, he started sending sketches of cars to Chrysler; company officials told him what education they would seek for stylists, and he proceeded to get a bachelor's degree in industrial design from the Pratt Institute. Career Immediately upon graduation in 1964, Herlitz started working for Plymouth, where he created the Barracuda SX show car. The Barracuda SX show car greatly influenced the 1967 Plymouth Barracuda. Pine Plains, NY
Pine Plains is a town in Dutchess County, New York, United States. The population was 2,218 at the 2020 census. The name is derived from the geographic character of the region. The hamlet of Pine Plains is on the northern border of the county. History The town was part of the Little Nine Partners Patent of 1706. The town was first settled around 1740 by Moravian missionaries to the native Mahican village of Shekomeko. The town of Pine Plains was formed from the town of North East in 1823. In the 1880s the town served as the winter-home for P.T. Barnum's animals. This was due to the rural, non-urban nature of the town (fewer prying eyes), and proximity to many different railroad lines. The Plymouth Road Runner is a mid-size car with a focus on performance built by Plymouth (automobile), Plymouth in the United States between 1968 and 1980. By 1968, some of the original muscle cars were moving away from their roots as relatively cheap, fast cars as they gained features and increased in price. Plymouth developed the Road Runner to market a lower-priced, basic trim model to its upscale Plymouth GTX, GTX. Origin Plymouth paid $50,000 to Warner Bros.-Seven Arts to use the Road Runner name and likeness from their Wile E. Tom Gale (designer)
Tom Gale is an American automobile designer widely known for his work with the Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth marques. Gale and his design partners Trevor Creed and John Herlitz were instrumental with breakthrough designs that rescued Chrysler twice from the brink of bankruptcy. Early life Gale was born in 1943 to Tom Gale Sr., who was an engineer in GM's Buick division. Growing up in Flint, Michigan, Gale showed a keen interest in automobiles. In 1966, he graduated from Michigan State with a degree in engineering. Time at Chrysler Gale joined Chrysler as an engineer, working in the newly formed advanced body-engineering group.
