John Doran (born 16 May 1978) is a former professional tennis player from Ireland. Doran played in 12 Davis Cup ties for Ireland between 1996 and 2004. He had an 8/6 record in singles and was 5/3 in doubles. His best result on tour came at a Challenger tournament in 2002, at Gosford, Australia, where he and Andrew Painter were doubles runners-up. Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis. It is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is contested annually between teams from competing countries in a knock-out format. It is described by the organisers as the "World Cup of Tennis", and the winners are referred to as the World Champion team. ATP Challenger Tour
The ATP Challenger Tour, known until the end of 2008 as the ATP Challenger Series, is a series of international men's professional tennis tournaments. The Challenger Tour events are the second-highest tier of tennis competition, behind the ATP Tour. Andrew Painter (born 18 July 1975) is a former professional tennis player from Australia. Career Painter was a doubles specialist and appeared in the men's doubles main draw of the Australian Open three times, with Neil Borwick in 1996, Jamie Holmes in 1997 and Toby Mitchell in 1999. He wasn't able to progress past the first round in any of his appearances but did make the second round of the 1998 Wimbledon Championships, partnering Holmes. The pair defeated Czechs David Škoch and Petr Luxa. He played in the main singles draw at the 1995 Wimbledon Championships and faced top seed Andre Agassi on centre court in the opening round.
