John Devereaux
John Devereaux (born January 17, 1962) is an American former basketball player. He had a long professional career in Europe, where he played in the top leagues in Spain, Italy, France and Germany. He played college basketball at Ohio University, where as a senior he was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year. Devereaux committed to Ohio out of Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, where he did not play until his junior year. He developed into a top player in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), named honorable mention all-conference as a sophomore, then first-team All-MAC as a junior and senior. He was also named MAC Player of the Year in his senior year. For his career at Ohio, he averaged 13.3 points and 8.5 rebounds for his Bobcat career. Following the close of his college career, Devereaux was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in the fourth round of the 1984 NBA draft (78th pick overall). Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Player Of The Year
The Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year is a basketball award given to the most outstanding men's basketball player in the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The award was first given following the 1967–68 season. Four players have won the award multiple times: Tom Kozelko, Ron Harper, Gary Trent and Bonzi Wells. Trent is the only player to have been honored as player of the year three times (1993–95). There have been no ties, nor has any player from the MAC ever won any of the national player of the year awards. Through 2023, Ohio has the most all-time winners with 11. The United States Basketball League (USBL) was a professional men's spring basketball league. The league was formed in 1985 and ceased operations in 2008. The USBL started in 1985 as one of the first basketball leagues to play a late-spring to early-summer schedule. The league quickly became known as a development league for players, with many players moving up to the National Basketball Association, NBA and many more playing in Europe after stints here. In 1996, the league made a stock offering, a rarity among sports leagues.
