John Cortes (Florida Politician)
John Cortes (born March 25, 1961) is a Democratic politician from Florida. He served three terms in the Florida House of Representatives from 2014 to 2020, representing northern Osceola County including Buenaventura Lakes, Campbell, Kissimmee, and Poinciana. Early life and career Cortes was born in Brooklyn in 1961 and attended the John Jay College of Criminal Justice from 1980 to 1981, though he did not graduate, and later worked as a corrections officer. In 2004, Cortes ran for the Kissimmee City Commission from Seat 3, and placed second to Jerry Gemskie in the general election, receiving 22% of the vote to Gemskie's 24%. Because no candidate received a majority, a runoff election was held in which Cortes lost to Gemskie in a landslide, winning only 33% of the vote. Cortes ran for Mayor of Kissimmee in 2006, and, once again, because no candidate received a majority, Cortes advanced to a runoff election with former City Commissioner Jim Swan, who beat Cortes handily. Ricardo Rangel (politician)
Ricardo Rangel (born June 5, 1977) is a former Democratic member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing the 43rd District, which is based in northern Osceola County, and includes Buenaventura Lakes, Campbell, Kissimmee, and Poinciana, serving from 2012 to 2014. History Ricardo Rangel parents are from Guayaquil, Ecuador but Rangel was born in Bronx, NY, and moved to the state of Florida in 1999. Upon graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Army, and served for 14 years, he continued his military career as a sergeant Financial Analyst in the Florida National Guard. Rangel worked for a number of nonprofit organizations, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and ran a number of political campaigns across the country. Poinciana () is a settlement and census-designated place (CDP) in Osceola and Polk counties in the U.S. state of Florida. It lies southwest of Kissimmee and approximately east of Haines City. As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP had a population of 53,193. As of April 2012 the population of the 9 villages which make up the Association of Poinciana Villages (APV), which covers a wider area than the CDP, was reported as 69,857. According to the latest census reports the adjoining tracts outside the CDP represent an additional 29,914 persons. Depending on the definition, the greater Poinciana Area represents a population of between 53,193 and 83,107. This puts Poinciana as one of the fastest growth areas for Central Florida over the past decade.
