John Boutté
John Boutté (born November 3, 1958) Boutté studied business at Xavier University of Louisiana where he was in ROTC. After he graduated, he was commissioned in the U.S. Army where he served for the next four years. When he returned, he started to work for a credit union instead of entering into the music industry. When he met Stevie Wonder, he started to seriously consider becoming a professional singer. Wonder acknowledged his talent and recommended him to pursue career in music. He soon joined Lillian on her tour to Europe, and his professional career started. He was featured on Lillian's live album, ''Gospel United'', released in 1994. In 1993, he released an album under his own name titled ''Through the Eyes of a Child''. He was the featured guest vocalist on Cuban group Cubanismo!'s ''Mardi Gras Mambo'', recorded in New Orleans. Galactic
Galactic is an American jam band from New Orleans, Louisiana. Origins and background Formed in 1994 as an octet (under the name Galactic Prophylactic) and including singer Chris Lane and guitarist Rob Gowen, the group was soon pared down to a sextet of: guitarist Jeff Raines, bassist Robert Mercurio, drummer Stanton Moore, Hammond organist Rich Vogel, Theryl DeClouet on vocals, and later adding saxophonist Ben Ellman. The group was started when Raines and Mercurio, childhood friends from affluent Chevy Chase, Maryland, moved to New Orleans together to attend college at Tulane and Loyola Universities, became enamored of the local funk scene, populated by such legendary acts as The Meters and Dirty Dozen Brass Band and inspired by local legends such as Professor Longhair. Doug Cox (musician)
Doug Cox (born in 1962 or 1963) is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and music programmer, and is currently signed to Toronto's NorthernBlues Music. He is well known for his skills on the dobro and slide guitar. Cox is the first person from Canada to perform in the Dobrofest. In 2004, Cox collaborated with Todd Butler and produced the CD, ''Dobro and Guitar'', which received a nomination from the Western Canadian Music Awards for "best roots music". The CD was also named "CD of the year" at the Vancouver Island Music Festival. Cox teamed with Indian veena player Salil Bhatt on two albums: ''Slide to Freedom'' in 2011 and ''Slide to Freedom 2'' in 2012. At times they were accompanied by John Boutté (vocals), Ramkumar Mishra (tabla), Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (veena), and Dinah D (bass). Cox currently resides on Vancouver Island, Canada. Tom McDermott (musician)
Tom McDermott is a pianist and composer born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1957. He began studying piano at age seven, became a professional musician at 16, and received a Master of Music degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1982. Two years later he moved to New Orleans and became noted for the styles of music associated with that town, especially traditional jazz and New Orleans R&B. He was in the group Dukes of Dixieland through much of the 1990s. In 1994 he co-founded and wrote arrangements for the innovative brass band the New Orleans Nightcrawlers. He has released 17 CDs as a leader, and has received praise from ''The New York Times'', ''Rolling Stone'', the ''Los Angeles Times'' and other publications. Since 2001 he has devoted much time travelling to Brazil, where he has studied and recorded choro music. McDermott is also a journalist, writing primarily about music and travel. Cowboy Mouth is an American band based in New Orleans, Louisiana known for fusing alternative rock with album-oriented rock, roots rock, and jam band influences.
