John Berwick
John Albert Berwick (30 July 1867 – 31 July 1946) was an English cricketer who played for Derbyshire between 1895 and 1901. Berwick was born in Kingsthorpe, Northampton, the son of John Berwick, bootmaker and his wife Rebecca. He also worked in the boot making trade. Berwick debuted for Derbyshire in the 1895 season against Hampshire, though he only made three appearances in that year and took no wickets. In 1898 he played minor county cricket for Northamptonshire. He returned to Derbyshire in the 1899 season as an effective bowler taking 5 for 82 against Yorkshire in his first game back in the side. He played nine matches that year, but only appeared twice each in the 1900 and 1901 seasons. In 1901 he achieved 5 for 61 against London County. Berwick was a left-arm medium-fast bowler and took 24 first-class wickets at an average of 37.16 and a best performance of 5 for 61. Kingsthorpe
Kingsthorpe is a suburb and civil parish of Northampton, England. It is situated to the north of Northampton town centre and is served by the A508 and A5199 roads which join at Kingsthorpe's centre. The 2011 Census recorded the population of the district council ward as 4,477. For centuries, Kingsthorpe was a rural village, with a parish of and history dating back to the 9th century. In the 19th century, it was made a civil parish. Most of the parish was absorbed into the borough of Northampton in 1900; the remainder of it followed in 1931. Kingsthorpe continued to grow into the 20th century as residential development moved further northwards and either side of the A508 and A5199 roads. London County Cricket Club
London County Cricket Club was a short-lived cricket club founded by the Crystal Palace Company. In 1898 they invited WG Grace to help them form a first-class cricket club. Grace accepted the offer and became the club's secretary, manager and captain. As a result, he severed his connection with Gloucestershire CCC during the 1899 season. The club played first-class matches between 1900 and 1904. The club's home ground was Crystal Palace Park Cricket Ground in south London. Some of the leading players of the time played matches for the club while continuing to play for their usual teams, among them CB Fry, JWHT Douglas, Albert Trott and Ranjitsinhji. It was their seventh season in the County Championship and they failed to win a single match, ending bottom of the Championship table. 1901 season Derbyshire CCC played twenty games in the County Championship in 1901 in addition to matches against W.G. Grace's London County Cricket Club, MCC and the touring South Africans. Derbyshire failed to win any first class match during the season. It was their sixth season in the County Championship and they won three matches to finish thirteenth in the Championship table. 1900 season Derbyshire played eighteen games in the County Championship in 1900, two matches against London County and one match against MCC. They also played a match against the touring West Indies. They only won two matches in the County Championship but a higher number of draws brought them up to 13 in the table.
