John Beckwith (footballer)

	John Beckwith (footballer) John Beckwith (born 16 September 1932) is a former Australian rules football player and coach, for the Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Beckwith's father, Wally Beckwith, was a VFL player for Fitzroy and was also a VFL umpire. Beckwith won the 1949 Federal Football League's Under 18 best and fairest award with Black Rock. Beckwith made his debut in round one against Essendon at Windy Hill. Essendon had been premiers the previous year and as such it was the unfurling of the 1950 premiership flag. The players had to line up, and General Sir Dallas Brooks, the Governor of Victoria, came past. Beckwith was only 19 years of age, and meeting the governor as well as playing his first game of VFL football was a nerve-wracking experience, although he did end up kicking a goal. 	Black Rock Football Club The Black Rock Football Club is an Australian rules football club located in the Melbourne bayside suburb of Black Rock, Victoria, Black Rock. The club will compete in 2nd division in the 2016 season. History The club commenced official competition play in 1913 by joining the Federal Football League (FDL). Apart from a brief period during the late 1920s in Victorian Amateur Football Association, Black Rock remained in the FDL until the early 1970s. The club folded in 1972, but was successfully revived and entered into the Eastern Suburbs Churches Football Association in 1976. Black Rock transferred to the South East Suburban Football League in 1986 before that league changed its name to the Southern Football League (Victoria), Southern Football League in 1992.
