John Arnold (MP For Ipswich)
John Arnold (died c. 1410), of Blaxhall and Ipswich, Suffolk, was an English Member of Parliament. He married, at some point before 1387, a woman named Christine. She was probably a daughter of Thomas Terry, also of Ipswich. John Arnold (judge)
Sir John Lewis Arnold (January 26, 1915 – October 9, 2004) was a British judge. He was President of the Family Division of the High Court of Justice from 1979 to 1988. Biography Arnold was educated Wellington College and University of Würzburg. He was called to the Bar by the Middle Temple in 1937. He became a tenant of Wilfred Hunt's chambers shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War, when he joined the Royal Artillery as a gunner. He was later commissioned and served in northwest Europe as an intelligence officer with 11th Armoured Division, then the 52nd Division Headquarters. He was severely wounded in Bremen in 1945. The same year, he was mentioned in despatches. After the war, Arnold practiced at the Chancery bar. Johnny Arnold
John Arnold (30 November 1907, Cowley, Oxford – 4 April 1984, Southampton, Hampshire) was an English cricketer and Football player. Cricket career John Arnold was an attacking opening batsman for Hampshire for 20 years from 1930, when he qualified by residence, having previously played Minor Counties cricket for Oxfordshire. He scored 1,000 runs in his first full first-class season and missed out on that feat only once in his career. In 1934, he scored 2,261 runs at an average of 48 runs per innings, the only time he passed 2,000 runs in a season. His one poor season, in 1938, led to him not being re-engaged by Hampshire, but the county had second thoughts and he returned for the 1939 season and for five more seasons after the Second World War. He fell ill during the 1950 season, and retired without playing again. He was a first-class umpire for 14 seasons from 1961. Murder Of Betty Gardner
On April 12, 1978, Betty Gardner, a 33-year-old black woman, was sexually assaulted, tortured, and murdered during a racially-motivated hate crime in St. Helena Island, South Carolina. Gardner had been hitchhiking when she was picked up by four white people: cousins John Arnold and John Plath, and their girlfriends, Cindy Sheets and Carol Ullman. After dropping Gardner off, Arnold suggested to the group that they kill her. Gardner was then sexually assaulted, strangled, beaten, and stabbed to death. After the murder, Arnold carved the letters " KKK" into her body. All of the perpetrators were captured at a later date. Sheets and Ullman were granted immunity after they turned state's evidence and testified against Arnold and Plath; who were ultimately convicted and sentenced to death. John Nelson Arnold (June 4, 1834 – May 31, 1909) was an American portrait painter. He was born on June 4, 1834, in Masonville, Windham County, Connecticut. John Arnold (1736 – 11 August 1799) was an English watchmaker and inventor. John Arnold was the first to design a watch that was both practical and accurate, and also brought the term " chronometer" into use in its modern sense, meaning a precision timekeeper. His technical advances enabled the quantity production of marine chronometers for use on board ships from around 1782. The basic design of these has remained, with a few modifications unchanged until the late twentieth century. His legacy includes, together with Abraham-Louis Breguet, as one of the inventors of the modern mechanical watch. One of his most important inventions, the overcoil balance spring is still used in most mechanical wristwatches. John Robert Arnold, (born 1 November 1933) is a retired Anglican priest and author. Arnold was educated at Christ's Hospital and Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. He was ordained in 1960 and was then a curate at Holy Trinity, Millhouses, Sheffield then chaplain and lecturer at the University of Southampton. From 1972 to 1978 he was secretary of the Board for Mission and Unity for the General Synod of the Church of England when he became Dean of Rochester.
