Johannes Voet
Johannes Voet, also known as John Voet (3 October 1647 – 11 September 1713) was a Dutch jurist whose work remains highly influential in modern Roman-Dutch law. Voet is one of the so-called "old authorities" of Roman-Dutch law, along with Hugo Grotius, Simon van Leeuwen (nl), Joan Cos, Gerhard Noodt, Zacharias Huber, Cornelius van Bynkershoek, Hobins van der Vorm, Gerloff Scheltinga (de), Willem Schorer (nl), Franciscus Lievens Kersteman, J. Gisbertus Voetius
Gisbertus Voetius ( Latinized version of the Dutch name Gijsbert Voet ; 3 March 1589 – 1 November 1676) was a Dutch Calvinist theologian. Life He was born at Heusden, in the Dutch Republic, studied at Leiden, and in 1611 became Protestant pastor of Vlijmen, whence in 1617 he returned to Heusden. In 1619, he played an influential part in the Synod of Dort, at which he was the youngest delegate. In 1634, Voetius was made professor of theology and Oriental science at the University of Utrecht. Three years later he became pastor of the Utrecht congregation. He was an advocate of a strong form of Calvinism ( Gomarism) against the Arminians. Dionysius Godefridus Van Der Keessel
Dionysius Godefridus van der Keessel (22 September 1738 – 7 August 1816) was a Dutch jurist. He was born and educated in Deventer. He then practiced law in The Hague, and was appointed professor in Groningen in 1762, and in Leiden in 1770, where he taught until 1815. He was the tutor of the future king William I from 1789 to 1790; William honored Van der Keessel with the Order of the Netherlands Lion. He died in Leiden.
