Johann Sioly
Johann Sioly (26 March 1843 – 8 April 1911) was an Austrian folksinger and Wienerlied composer. Life Born in Vienna, Sioly studied violin from 1853 to 1859 and was a pianist and composer in various Viennese folk singing societies from 1861. Influenced by the Viennese mentality, Sioly began early on to write and compose Viennese songs. The politically critical Sioly created over a thousand songs, which were included in the Heurigen canon (for example: ''Des hat ka Goethe g'schrieb'n''). From 1869 to 1873 he accompanied the well-known folk singer Antonie Mansfeld, with whom he also had a love affair. Before the planned wedding, however, she fell into mental confusion and died in an asylum. He also worked closely with the folk singer (1839-1912) and the folk singer and playwright Wilhelm Wiesberg (1850-1896) together. The Wienerlied (German, literally: Viennese song, pl. Wienerlieder) or Weanaliad (Viennese German, viennese, pl. ''Weanaliada'') is a song genre which has its roots in Vienna, the capital of Austria. Traditional Viennese songs, known as ''Wienerlieder'' are centred on the theme of life in Vienna and are almost exclusively sung in Viennese German, Viennese (a local Bavarian language, Austro-Bavarian dialect). The Wienerlied is a unique musical and socio-cultural phenomenon, a psychograph of the Viennese way of life; a mix between idealism, joie de vivre and desperation. There are approximately 60,000 – 70,000 Wienerlieder, of which only a few hundred are still sung today. Wilhelm Wiesberg
Wilhelm Wiesberg (13 September 1850 – 25 August 1896), real name Wilhelm Bergamenter, was an Austrian writer and folksinger. Life Born in Vienna, Wiesberg acted in children's comedies at the Vienna Theater in der Josefstadt and was an employee of the magazines '' Figaro'', '' Kikeriki'', ''Zeitgeist'' and '' Der Floh''. After he lost his job, he became a folk singer. Wiesberg wrote 72 Posse mit Gesang, 30 solo scenes and more than 1000 songs. He often worked together with Johann Sioly and Wilhelm Seidl. Wiesberg died in Vienna at age 45. His grave is located at the Dornbacher Friedhof in Vienna (Gruppe 3, Nummer 12). The Vienna Central Cemetery (german: Wiener Zentralfriedhof) is one of the largest cemeteries in the world by number of interred, and is the most well-known cemetery among Vienna's nearly 50 cemeteries. Felix Czeike (21 August 1926 – 23 April 2006) was an Austrian historian and popular educator. He was an author and partly also editor of numerous publications on the history of Vienna and was the director of the . His main work is the six-volume ''Historische Lexikon Wien''. Life Czeike, born in Favoriten (10th district of Vienna), studied history, geography, German studies and art history at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in philosophy in 1950. From 1954 he worked in the Vienna City and State Archives, and in 1976 took over their management, which he held until his retirement in 1989. In 1977 he founded the Vienna branch of the Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft for urban history research, which was integrated into the City and State archives, and which he headed until his death.
