He specializes in the crafting of unusual and innovative handmade guitars, basses, and other stringed instruments. Kaki King (born Katherine Elizabeth King, August 24, 1979) is an American guitarist and composer. King is known for her percussive and jazz-tinged melodies, energetic live shows, use of multiple tunings on acoustic and lap steel guitar, and her diverse range in different genres. In February 2006, ''Rolling Stone'' released a list of "The New Guitar Gods", on which King was the sole woman and youngest artist (beating Derek Trucks in age by two months as the youngest on the list). Her career includes six LP and two EP albums, as well as several scores for television and film. Manowar
Manowar is an American heavy metal band from Auburn, New York. Formed in 1980, the group is known for lyrics based on fantasy (particularly sword and sorcery) and mythology (particularly Norse mythology and Greco-Roman mythology), as well as numerous songs celebrating the genre and its core audience. The band is also known for a loud and emphatic sound. David Nichtern
David Nichtern (born 19 February 1948) is an American songwriter and television composer, soundtrack artist and Buddhist teacher of the Shambala tradition of Chögyam Trungpa. Biography Born and raised in Manhattan, Nichtern is the son of Sol Nichtern, a prominent New York psychiatrist and writer, and Broadway producer Claire Nichtern, the first female Tony award winner. Having begun practicing music at age eight, he began his career as a professional musician during his college years at Columbia University. Ty Burhoe
Ty Burhoe is an American tabla player and live concert producer. He is known primarily in Classical Indian and fusion settings. Burhoe has studied with Ustad Zakir Hussain since 1990. Since 1995, Burhoe has served as Zakir Hussain's tour assistant as well as the designer for his custom drums and drum racks which Zakir uses for his tours with Shakti, ''Masters of Percussion'', Mickey Hart & Planet Drum, Charles Lloyd Trio and Lines Ballet collaborations. Rick Allen (drummer)
Richard John Cyril Allen (born 1 November 1963) is an English drummer who has played for the hard rock band Def Leppard since 1978. He overcame the amputation of his left arm in January 1985 and continued to play with the band, which went on to its most commercially successful phase. He is known as "The Thunder God" by fans. He is ranked No. 7 on the UK website Gigwise in ''The Greatest Drummers of All Time'' list. Walter Becker
Walter Carl Becker (February 20, 1950 – September 3, 2017) was an American musician, songwriter, and record producer. Cuatro (instrument)
The cuatro is a family of Latin American string instruments played in Puerto Rico, Venezuela and other Latin American countries. It is derived from the Spanish guitar. Although some have viola-like shapes, most cuatros resemble a small to mid-sized classical guitar. In Puerto Rico and Venezuela, the cuatro is an ensemble instrument for secular and religious music, and is played at parties and traditional gatherings. Bouzouki
The bouzouki (, also ; el, μπουζούκι ; alt. pl. ''bouzoukia'', from Greek ), also spelled buzuki or buzuci, is a musical instrument popular in Greece. It is a member of the long-necked lute family, with a round body with a flat top and a long neck with a fretted fingerboard. It has steel strings and is played with a plectrum producing a sharp metallic sound, reminiscent of a mandolin but pitched lower. Mandolin
A mandolin ( it, mandolino ; literally "small mandola") is a stringed musical instrument in the lute family and is generally plucked with a pick. It most commonly has four courses of doubled strings tuned in unison, thus giving a total of 8 strings, although five (10 strings) and six (12 strings) course versions also exist. There are of course different types of strings that can be used, metal strings are the main ones since they are the cheapest and easiest to make. The courses are typically tuned in an interval of perfect fifths, with the same tuning as a violin (G3, D4, A4, E5). Michael Gurian (luthier)
Michael Gurian (born 1943) is an American-born guitarist and luthier of Armenian descent. He had some initial furniture making experience when he became a guitar teacher at the Guitar Workshop, Roslyn, New York in 1961. He studied classical guitar making with, among others, luthiers Gene Clark, David Rubio, and Manuel Velazquez. His interest in the classical guitar and subsequently, the steel-string acoustic guitar stimulated experiments in guitar building which led to the formation of the Gurian Guitar Company which was active from approx. 1965 to 1981. Gurian guitars were well received by acoustic and folk players of the day but the company suffered a disastrous fire in 1979 and was closed in 1982.
