Joao Barradas
João Barradas (born 3 February 1992) is a Portuguese accordionist and composer. Biography João Barradas was born in Porto Alto, in the parish of Samora Correia. He initiated his accordion studies at the age of six at a small music school in Samora Correia, then gained admission to Instituto de Música Vitorino Matono in Lisbon, and at the age of nine, was admitted directly to the second year of the Official Accordion Course at the National Conservatory, finishing his training with the highest mark of 20/20. João Barradas has participated in various national and international contests, having done his preparation at the Música Serenata School, directed by Aníbal Freire. After this period he continues studying with Greg Osby, Frédéric Deschamps and João Paulo Esteves da Silva. Accordionist
Accordions (from 19th-century German ''Akkordeon'', from ''Akkord''—"musical chord, concord of sounds") are a family of box-shaped musical instruments of the bellows-driven free-reed aerophone type (producing sound as air flows past a reed in a frame), colloquially referred to as a squeezebox. A person who plays the accordion is called an accordionist. The concertina , harmoneon and bandoneón are related. The harmonium and American reed organ are in the same family, but are typically larger than an accordion and sit on a surface or the floor. The accordion is played by compressing or expanding the bellows while pressing buttons or keys, causing ''pallets'' to open, which allow air to flow across strips of brass or steel, called '' reeds''. Alain Platel
Alain Platel (born 9 April 1956) is a Belgian choreographer and director. In 1984, he founded les ballets C de la B, which has been called 'one of the world's most influential dance theatre companies'. Platel came to prominence alongside choreographers like Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker and Wim Vandekeybus in what became known as the Flemish Wave. Career Early years (1956–1984) Alain Platel was born in Ghent in 1956. In 1969, he was accepted to study at the Hoste-Sabbattini Mime Centre in Ghent. Sara Serpa is a jazz vocalist from Lisbon, Portugal. Career For ten years Serpa studied classical piano and vocals, then studied jazz at the Lisbon Conservatory. After moving to Boston, she attended the Berklee College of Music. She recorded her debut album ''Praia'' (Inner Circle Music, 2008) the same year she received a master's degree from the New England Conservatory.
