Jo-El Azara
Joseph Franz Hedwig Loeckx is a Belgian comic book artist. He works under the pseudonym of Jo-El Azara. Important series he has worked on include ''Clifton'' and ''Taka Takata''. Biography Loeckx was born in Drogenbos, Flemish Brabant, near Brussels, Belgium, on 4 May 1937. Loeckx is sometimes referred to as Joseph-R. Loeckx but this is an error. During his working life, first he used the penname of Jo-El, subsequently Ernest, and thereafter worked as Jo-El Azara, under which name he has drawn most of his comics. A long career of working with the great names in Belgian and French comics, including Hergé, Macherot, and Uderzo, he was active in publishing his own Taka-Takata albums under his Azéko label. He lives in South of France close to the Pyrenees. His lifelong partner, Josette Baujot, died on 13 August 2009. Drogenbos
Drogenbos (; ) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant. The municipality only comprises the town of Drogenbos proper. On January 1, 2018, Drogenbos had a total population of 5,599. The total area is 2.49 km² (0.96 sq mi) which gives a population density of 2,248 inhabitants per km² (5,701/sq mi). The official language of Drogenbos is Dutch, as everywhere in Flanders. Local French-speakers (77% of the population) enjoy linguistic facilities. Galerie Lambiek is a Dutch comic book store and art gallery in Amsterdam, founded on November 8, 1968 by Kees Kousemaker (, – Bussum, ), though since 2007, his son Boris Kousemaker is the current owner. From 1968 to 2015, it was located in the Kerkstraat, but in November 2015, the store moved to the Koningsstraat 27. As of 2018, Lambiek is the oldest comics store in Europe, and the oldest worldwide still in existence. The name "Lambiek" originated as a misspelling of the name of the comics character Lambik, from the popular Suske & Wiske comic book series created by Belgian artist Willy Vandersteen. The logo of the shop is an image from the ''Suske en Wiske'' album ''Prinses Zagemeel'' (''Princess Sawdust''). Josette Baujot
Josette Baujot (17 August 1920 – 13 August 2009) was a Belgian artist and colorist. She is most commonly associated with fellow Belgian comics writer Hergé (Georges Remi) and his ''Adventures of Tintin'' series. Early life She was born Josette Marie Louise Nondonfaz in Spa, Belgium. There she studied drawing and portraiture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Liège. She married Joseph Baujot in 1944, with whom she moved to Argentina. The couple bought a vineyard there and had a son. Her life changed abruptly when Joseph was shot dead while hunting in 1953. It was reported that he had been shot by members of the French or Belgian resistance who had tracked him down; however Joseph lived long enough to inform police that he had been accidentally shot by his friend. Josette returned to Brussels after his death. She eventually found work at the Hergé Studios. Alberto Aleandro Uderzo (; ; 25 April 1927 – 24 March 2020), better known as Albert Uderzo, was a French comic book artist and scriptwriter. He is best known as the co-creator and illustrator of the ''Astérix'' series in collaboration with René Goscinny. He also drew other comics such as '' Oumpah-pah'', again with Goscinny. Uderzo retired in September 2011. Early life Uderzo was born in Fismes in the Marne department of France on 25 April 1927 as the fourth child of Italian immigrants Silvio Uderzo (1888–1985) and his wife Iria Uderzo (born Crestini, 1897–1997). Raymond Macherot (30 March 1924 – 26 September 2008) was a Belgian cartoonist. Although not nearly as famous as fellow Belgian cartoonists such as Hergé or André Franquin, Macherot's work, both as artist and writer, remains highly regarded among critics and collectors.
