Jiri Hlinka
Jiri Hlinka ( cs, Jiří Hlinka; born 1944) is a Norway, Norwegian professor and piano teacher of Czech Republic, Czech origin. His most well-known student is Leif Ove Andsnes. Career Hlinka was born in Prague, Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, and was a student of Frantisek Rauch and Joseph Paleniček at the Prague Academy of Music. He started giving concerts in 1966 and reached the finals of the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow the same year. He recorded Sergei Prokofiev's piano sonatas 2 and 6 for Supraphon in 1967. The album was released in Norway in 1998. In 1970, he was forced to give up his soloist career for medical reasons and has since worked as a piano pedagogue. In 1972, he moved to Norway, obtaining Norwegian citizenship in 1982. He has taught at conservatories in Bergen and Oslo and regularly gives international master classes. Among his students are Leif Ove Andsnes, Håvard Gimse and Geir Botnen. Håvard Gimse
Håvard Gimse (born 15 September 1966) is a Norwegian classical pianist from Kongsvinger, and the brother of the cellist Øyvind Gimse. He has received the Griegprisen (1996) and the Steinway Award (1995). Gimse has done several recordings for Naim Audio, Naxos Records, Sony Classical Records, Chandos Records and Simax catalog, Simax. Career Gimse is described as one of Norway's leading musicians, with a bold and expansive repertoire, and an impressive list of 30 performed piano concertos. He is much sought after as a concert pianist, as well as an accompanist for many of Scandinavia's finest artists. After earning his diploma at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin in 1995 (Leygraf), he continued his studies with the revered piano professor Jiri Hlinka in Norway. Government scholar (Norwegian, ''statsstipendiat'') is a position awarded by the Parliament of Norway upon the recommendation of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Education and Research and funded directly over the State budget of Norway. The position can be "for life" (until the normal age of retirement, 67 years) or for a limited period of time, although modern appointments usually are "for life." King's Medal Of Merit
The King's Medal of Merit (Norwegian: ''Kongens fortjenstmedalje'') is a Norwegian award. It was instituted in 1908 to reward meritorious achievements in the fields of art, science, business, and public service. It is divided in two classes: gold and silver. The medal in gold is rewarded for extraordinary achievements of importance to the nation and society. The medal in silver may be awarded for lesser achievements.
