Jimmy Montgomery
Jimmy Montgomery BEM (born 9 October 1943) is an English retired footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He made a record 627 appearances for his hometown club Sunderland with 537 of these appearances being in the league, after joining the club as a youngster in 1960. In June 2015, Montgomery was awarded the British Empire Medal for his services to football in the Queen's birthday honours list. Football career He made his debut aged only 18 against Walsall, going on to serve 17 years at the club. Montgomery featured for Sunderland in the 1973 FA Cup Final, where they beat Leeds United 1–0 to win the FA Cup for only the second time in their history. His most memorable contribution in that match was a double save from Trevor Cherry and Peter Lorimer which prevented Leeds from equalising. British Empire Medal
The British Empire Medal (BEM; formerly British Empire Medal for Meritorious Service) is a British and Commonwealth award for meritorious civil or military service worthy of recognition by the Crown. The current honour was created in 1922 to replace the original medal, which had been established in 1917 as part of the Order of the British Empire. James Hayden Montgomery (born 20 April 1994) is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Gateshead on loan from club Spennymoor Town. Early and personal life Born in Sunderland, his grandfather was a cousin of footballer Jimmy Montgomery. Career Montgomery began his career playing youth football for Middlesbrough. He then played in non-league with Guiseley, before attending the Nike Football Academy and signing with AFC Telford United in 2015. While with Telford he also began training with Sunderland (in July 2016), and with the V9 Academy (in November 2016). He moved to Gateshead in January 2017. Montgomery signed a two-year contract with Forest Green Rovers in May 2018. He made his professional debut on 14 August 2018, in the EFL Cup. The 1980 European Cup Final was a football match held at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain on 28 May 1980, to determine the winner of the 1979–80 European Cup. The final saw defending champions Nottingham Forest of England defeat Hamburg of West Germany by a score of 1–0. In the 21st minute, John Robertson squeezed a shot past Hamburg keeper Rudi Kargus for the only goal of the game, and Forest then defended solidly, to give Nottingham Forest back-to-back European Cup titles.
