Jim Thorpe (golfer)
Jimmy Lee Thorpe (born February 1, 1949) is an American professional golfer, currently playing on the Champions Tour. Early life Thorpe was born in Roxboro, North Carolina, the ninth of the twelve children of a fairway superintendent. He attended Morgan State University. Professional career Thorpe turned professional in 1972. He won three times on the PGA Tour in the mid-1980s. He has surpassed this at senior level by winning over ten times, including one senior major championship (the 2002 Tradition) and making the top ten of the Champions Tour's career money list in 2004. Thorpe's late success has been clouded by charges filed in federal court in Orlando, Florida, charging him with failure to pay $1.6 million in taxes between the years 2002 and 2004. After his lawyer stated that Thorpe intended to plead innocent to the charges, Thorpe pleaded guilty in September 2009. On January 22, 2010, Thorpe was sentenced to one year in prison for the crime. Roxboro is a city and the county seat of Person County in the U.S. state of North Carolina. The population was 8,362 at the 2010 census. Scott William Simpson (born September 17, 1955) is an American professional golfer. Amateur career Simpson was born in San Diego, California, and played college golf at the University of Southern California, where he was two-time medalist at the NCAA Championship in 1976 and 1977. At the end of 1976 ''Golf Digest'' ranked Simpson the #1 amateur in the country. Professional career He turned professional in 1977 and graduated in 1978. He played on the PGA Tour from 1979, and won seven PGA Tour events between 1980 and 1998. Ed Dougherty
Edward Matthew "Doc" Dougherty (born November 4, 1947) is an American professional golfer who has played on the PGA Tour and Champions Tour. Dougherty was born in Chester, Pennsylvania. He was drafted into the Army after high school and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. Dougherty developed a serious interest in golf while stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington after returning from Southeast Asia. He turned pro in 1969. Dougherty had 19 top-10 finishes in PGA Tour events during his career including a win at the Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic in 1995, which one year earlier had become an official event. Bruce Fleisher
Bruce Lee Fleisher (October 16, 1948 – September 23, 2021) was an American professional golfer. Early years and amateur career Fleisher was born in Union City, Tennessee, and was Jewish. In 1950, the Fleisher family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, where Bruce began playing golf with his brothers, Leslie and Jerry. When Bruce was 14, the Fleishers moved to Miami, Florida. Amateur career Fleisher became involved in golf at age seven by working as a caddie with his two brothers. Fleisher attended Miami-Dade Junior College and Furman University. Donnie Hammond
Donald William Hammond (born April 1, 1957) is an American professional golfer who has played on the PGA Tour, Nationwide Tour, and Champions Tour. Hammond was born in Frederick, Maryland. He attended Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida and was a member of the golf team. He turned pro in 1979 and joined the PGA Tour in 1983. Dave Barr (golfer)
David Allen Barr (born March 1, 1952) is a Canadian professional golfer who has played on the Canadian Tour, PGA Tour and Champions Tour. Barr was born in Kelowna, British Columbia. He attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma and was a member of the golf team. He finished as runner-up in the 1972 Canadian Amateur Championship. Barr turned professional in 1974. From 1974 to 1978, he played on the Canadian Professional Golf Tour, where he earned 12 victories. He played on the PGA Tour from 1978 to 2002. He continued to support the Canadian circuit by playing several events per year, even after he joined the PGA Tour, although the Canadian events had much lower prize money.
