Jim Spooner Field
Jim Spooner Field is a stadium in Pensacola, Florida, Pensacola, Florida, United States that is primarily used for baseball, and is home field for the University of West Florida baseball team and was home to the Pensacola Pelicans. It opened in 1981 with a seating capacity of about 1,000 people. Over the years, that capacity has more than tripled. In May 2003, the stadium underwent a massive renovation. The president of the Pelicans, Rishy Studer, and her husband Quint Studer, Quint, contributed $500,000 to improve the stadium to meet minor league standards. The renovations included adding a lawn seating area that could accommodate up to 500 people, a series of premium seating sections, a public address system, a new backstop, and accommodations for the disabled. The University of West Florida (West Florida or UWF) is a public university in Pensacola, Florida. Established in 1963 as part of the State University System of Florida, the university sits on the third largest campus in the State University System, at . The West Florida Argonauts (or UWF Argonauts) are the athletic teams that represent the University of West Florida, located in Pensacola, Florida, in intercollegiate sports at the Division II level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), primarily competing in the Gulf South Conference (GSC) since the 1994–95 academic year. The Argonauts previously competed in the Southern States Conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) from 1974–75 to 1993–94, with a brief hiatus of dropping its athletics program from 1976–77 to 1979–80.
