Jim Shuler
James Marshall Shuler (born December 31, 1943) is a retired American politician. He served in the Virginia House of Delegates 1994–2012, representing the 12th district in the western part of the state. Shuler is a member of the Democratic Party. Shuler served on the House committees on Agriculture (1994–2001), Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources (2002–2011), Corporations, Insurance and Banking (1994–2001), Education (2004–2011), Labor and Commerce (1994–1997), Militia, Police and Public Safety (2002–2011), Mining and Mineral Resources (1994–2001), and Science and Technology (1998–2001). Virginia's 12th House of Delegates district elects one of the hundred Delegates of the Virginia House of Delegates, United States. Located in southwestern Virginia, 12th district represents the city of Radford, Giles County, and portions of Montgomery County and Pulaski County. The seat is currently held by Republican Jason Ballard, first elected during the 2021 election. Craig County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 4,892. Its county seat is New Castle. Craig County is part of the Roanoke, VA Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Nestled in the mountains of Southwest Virginia, Craig County was named for Robert Craig, a 19th-century Virginia congressman. The initial outpost in the area was called "Craig's Camp," and it is claimed that George Washington visited it in 1756 during his travels to the frontier. Pulaski County is a county located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 33,800. Its county seat is Pulaski. Pulaski County is part of the Blacksburg– Christiansburg, VA Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Pulaski County was formed on March 30, 1839, from parts of Montgomery and Wythe counties, becoming the 87th county of the Commonwealth of Virginia. It was named for Count Casimir Pulaski, an exiled Polish nobleman who fought during the American Revolution as part of George Washington's army.
