James Marcus Evans (August 17, 1963 – November 19, 2015) was an American professional football player. Evans was one of 21 children born to Maxine Cade Evans. He graduated from Mattie T. Blount High School and Southern University. He was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the tenth round of the 1987 NFL Draft and played two games that season. James Evans (historian)
James Richard Evans (born 17 December 1975) is an English historian, author and television producer. Education Evans grew up in Epsom and was educated at Whitgift School. Evans attended Oriel College, Oxford University. and studied History graduating in 1998. He went on to do doctoral studies at Oriel College where he wrote a D.Phil on the national question in the new state of Yugoslavia after World War I. Career Since university he worked on producing multiple television historical documentaries as well as helping to write the accompanying books for the series. His first major book, ''Merchant Adventurers: The Voyage of Discovery that Transformed Tudor England'' (2013) used the primary source of a story he came across during a television project. Jim Evans, sometimes known as T.A.Z., is an American painter, printmaker, and creative director who was a contributing figure in the visual art movement known as underground comix. After a successful career as a comic illustrator, Evans worked as a painter, poster maker, and owner of the digital design group Division 13. Biography Early life Evans was born in San Diego amidst the surfing culture of southern California. After attending Oceanside High School, he played in several local bands and then created comic strips for the ''Los Angeles Free Press'' and other underground papers while working for Eric Matlen's Sawyer Press. Evans then began to take commissions doing work in several comic books. James Guy Evans (1809 or 1810 – 1859) was an American naval mariner and artist. Self-taught as an artist, Evans is known for his paintings of 19th century sailing ships, which are held in numerous museum collections. Early life He was born in New York City in either 1809 or 1810. Naval career When Evans enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps as a private in July 1829, he listed his trade as a shoemaker. Shortly after enlisting he contracted fever and, on the request of his father, John Evans of Philadelphia, he was discharged as a minor in October 1829. Nine months later, in July 1830, he re-enlisted in the Marine Corps and served until he was discharged at Norfolk, Virginia, on 4 March 1836. Based on some of his known paintings, he may have served in in 1830-32 and he is known to have served in the ship-of-the line from 1832 to 1836. James Evans (linguist)
James Evans (January 18, 1801 – November 23, 1846) was an English-Canadian Wesleyan Methodist missionary and amateur linguist. He is known for creating the "syllabic" writing system for Ojibwe and Cree, which was later adapted to other languages such as Inuktitut. Life Evans was born in Kingston-upon-Hull in England, but emigrated with his parents to Lower Canada in 1822, where he worked as a teacher. He later moved to Rice Lake and continued his teaching work. In 1833 he was ordained as a Wesleyan Methodist minister, and in 1840 he was given authority over the local district in Norway House in Manitoba. During this time Evans worked on the development of the Ojibwe and Cree scripts. Evans had picked up Ojibwe during his work among the people in Upper Canada.
