James Dixon
James Dixon (August 5, 1814 – March 27, 1873) was a United States representative and United States Senator, Senator from Connecticut. Biography Dixon, son of William & Mary (Field) Dixon, was born August 5, 1814 in Enfield, Connecticut, Dixon pursued preparatory studies, and graduated from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts in 1834, where he had been a charter member of Kappa Alpha Society, The Kappa Alpha Society. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He studied law, and was admitted to the bar (law), bar in 1834 and commenced practice in Enfield. Career Dixon was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives in 1837–1838 and 1844, and served as speaker in 1837; he moved to Hartford, Connecticut in 1839 and continued the practice of law. James Stedman Dixon (8 January 1845 – 18 July 1911) was a leading Scottish coal-mine owner, president of the Mining Institute of Scotland and of the Institution of Mining Engineers of Great Britain, and founder of the James S. James Dixon Black
James Dixon Black (September 24, 1849 – August 5, 1938) was an American attorney who was the 39th Governor of Kentucky, serving for seven months in 1919. He ascended to the office when Governor Augustus O. Stanley was elected to the U.S. Senate. Black graduated from Tusculum College in 1872 and taught school while studying law. He was admitted to the bar in 1874 and opened his legal practice in Barbourville, Kentucky. Eventually, his son, Pitzer Dixon, and his son-in-law, Hiram H. Owens, became partners in his practice, called Black, Black and Owens. Deeply interested in education, he served as superintendent of the Knox County public schools for two years, and was instrumental in the founding of Union College in Barbourville. James Dixon Murray (17 September 1887 – 24 January 1965) was a British coal miner and Labour Party politician in the United Kingdom. Early life and education Murray was born in East Howle, County Durham, on 17 September 1887 to William Murray and Amelia Murray (née Dixon). He was from a family of twelve and was brought up in a three-roomed miner's cottage at 27, Front Street, Browney Colliery. He began work at a Durham pit aged thirteen, and was hewing coal by the time he was sixteen years old. ''Road Wars'' is a British police reality television programme created by Raw Cut TV for British Sky Broadcasting and broadcast on Sky1 from 2003 to 2010. From Series 1 the show was narrated by actor Lee Boardman. The 2nd half of series 7 was narrated by actress Claire Goose. As of 2023, the show has reruns on Sky One, Sky Replay, Pick, Sky Witness and Sky Crime. Format Road Wars followed the work of police officers, documenting the changing tactics of criminals and the response of the UK police forces. For six seasons the show followed officers in the Thames Valley, but moved to Devon and Cornwall for the last series in 2009. The programme also features some police videos both in the UK and US. Mancunian Lee Boardman narrated the show until the second half of series 7, employing a light-hearted and pun-intended approach. James Dixon (priest)
James Dixon (1758-1840) was an Irish Catholic priest who was transported to Australia and in 1803 became the first Catholic priest permitted to minister there. Early life and education James Dixon was born in 1758 in Castlebridge, County Wexford. As was common for Irish priests, he trained for the priesthood overseas, at the universities of Salamanca and Louvain, then became curate at Crossabeg near Wexford. During the Irish Rebellion of 1798 he was arrested and tried for involvement and convicted, although there was considerable evidence that he was innocent. He was sentenced to death but the sentence was commuted to transportation for life to New South Wales. He arrived in Sydney on the ''Friendship'' on 16 January 1800. James Budd Dixon (November 26, 1900 – December 1, 1967) was an American Abstract Expressionist painter and printmaker. He was a member of the "Sausalito Six" group of San Francisco Bay Area painters. Family and education James Budd Dixon was born to a well-to-do family in San Francisco, California. In the 1920s, he studied art at the University of California, Berkeley, where he was an illustrator for several campus publications. He served in the Army Air Forces in World War II, after which he returned to studying art under the G.I. Bill, this time at the California School of Fine Arts (CSFA, now the San Francisco Art Institute). Among his classmates at CSFA were other emerging Bay Area Abstract Expressionists, including Richard Diebenkorn, John Hultberg, Frank Lobdell, Walter Kuhlman, and George Stillman.
