Jiang Guoping
Jiang Guoping (; born October 1962) is a vice admiral ('' zhongjiang'') of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) who has been deputy commander of the North Theater Command since September 2019. He is a delegate to the 13th National People's Congress. Biography Jiang was born into an official family in Rushan County, Shandong, in October 1962. He graduated from Dalian Naval Academy and served as its president from 2011 to 2014. In September 2014, he was commissioned as deputy chief of staff of the North Sea Fleet. In December, he became commander of the 19th Escort Formation of the People's Liberation Army Navy, responsibling for the convoy of the Gulf of Aden. During his tenure, he was the commander of the Yemeni Overseas Chinese Evacuation Task Force. Within 12 days, he commanded the naval vesseled to safely evacuate 897 Chinese and foreign citizens. Jiang (, also romanized Gang, Geung, Gung, Chiang, Keung, Keong, Kiang) is one of the oldest Chinese surname, being one of the original ''xing'' (姓) surnames. Wang Hai (admiral)
Wang Hai (; born December 1960) is a vice admiral of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). He has been Commander of the South Sea Fleet since January 2017. He formerly served as a Deputy Commander of the PLA Navy. Career Wang Hai served for many years in the PLA Navy's South Sea Fleet. He attained the rank of rear admiral in July 2010. In September 2012, when ''Liaoning'', China's first aircraft carrier was commissioned into service, Wang Hai was named the first commander of its carrier battle group. In March 2014, Wang became chief of staff of the PLAN's North Sea Fleet, succeeding rear admiral Wei Gang (魏钢). In July 2015, he was appointed a deputy commander of the PLA Navy. Rear Admiral
Rear admiral is a senior naval flag officer rank, equivalent to a major general and air vice marshal and above that of a commodore and captain, but below that of a vice admiral. It is regarded as a two star "admiral" rank. It is often regarded as a two-star rank with a NATO code of OF-7. The term originated in the days of naval sailing squadrons and can trace its origins to the Royal Navy. Each naval squadron was assigned an admiral as its head, who commanded from the centre vessel and directed the squadron's activities. The Gulf of Aden ( ar, خليج عدن, so, Gacanka Cadmeed 𐒅𐒖𐒐𐒕𐒌 𐒋𐒖𐒆𐒗𐒒) is a deepwater gulf of the Indian Ocean between Yemen to the north, the Arabian Sea to the east, Djibouti to the west, and the Guardafui Channel, Socotra and Somalia to the south. In the northwest, it connects with the Red Sea through the Bab-el-Mandeb strait, and it connects with the Arabian Sea to the east. To the west, it narrows into the Gulf of Tadjoura in Djibouti. The ancient Greeks regarded the gulf as one of the most important parts of the Erythraean Sea. It later came to be dominated by Muslims, as the area around the gulf converted to Islam. People's Liberation Army Navy
The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN; ), also known as the People's Navy, Chinese Navy, or PLA Navy, is the maritime service branch of the People's Liberation Army. The PLAN traces its lineage to naval units fighting during the Chinese Civil War and was established on 23 April 1949. Throughout the 1950s and early 1960s, the Soviet Union provided assistance to the PLAN in the form of naval advisers and export of equipment and technology. Until the late 1980s, the PLAN was largely a riverine and littoral force (brown-water navy). North Sea Fleet
The Northern Theater Command Navy (), or the North Sea Fleet (NSF; ) is one of the three fleets of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy, under the Northern Theater Command. In September 1950 the Qingdao Army Base was redesignated as a naval base. Following the departure of the Soviet Navy from Lüshunkou (Port Arthur), the North Sea Fleet was established in 1960 with naval bases in Qingdao and Lüshunkou. It includes the Aircraft carrier Liaoning, as well as nuclear-powered attack and missile submarines based at Qingdao bastion. The North Sea Fleet was historically the most capable of the Navy's three fleets, being the first in China to operate destroyers, shore-based missiles and nuclear submarines. The People's Liberation Army (PLA) is the principal military force of the People's Republic of China and the armed wing of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The PLA consists of five service branches: the Ground Force, Navy, Air Force, Rocket Force, and Strategic Support Force.
