Jerónimo De Sousa
Jerónimo Carvalho de Sousa (; born 13 April 1947) is a Portugal, Portuguese politician who served as General Secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party from the 17th Congress of the Party in November 2004 to the party's National Conference in November 2022. He is a member of the Assembly of the Republic (Portugal), Assembly of the Republic and was also a candidate in the 2006 Portuguese presidential election, 2006 presidential election. 2006 Portuguese Presidential Election
The 2006 Portuguese presidential election was held on 22 January to elect a successor to the incumbent President Jorge Sampaio, who was term-limited from running for a third consecutive term by the Constitution of Portugal. The result was a victory in the first round for Aníbal Cavaco Silva of the Social Democratic Party candidate, the former Prime Minister, won 50.54 percent of the vote in the first round, just over the majority required to avoid a runoff election. It was the first time in which a right-wing candidate was elected President of the Republic since the 1974 Carnation Revolution. Voter turnout was 61.53 percent for eligible voters. Carlos Alberto do Vale Gomes Carvalhas, GCC (born in São Pedro do Sul, 9 November 1941) is a Portuguese economist and politician and former Secretary-General of the Portuguese Communist Party (1993–2004), succeeding the historical leader Álvaro Cunhal. He was born to António José Bandeira Carvalhas (Baiões, São Pedro do Sul, 22 April 1915 – 4 February 1999) and Esmeraldina do Céu Gomes Quaresma (b. Moldes, Arouca, 9 July 1917). His father was a businessman and owner of the warehouse Discomer that served as a food retailer for the local shops. He was a deputy of the Assembly of the Republic for two time periods and was a candidate for the Portuguese presidency in 1991, where he received 635,373 votes (12.92%). Loures () is a city and a municipality in Portugal which is part of the District and Metropolitan area of Lisbon. It is the fifth most populous municipality in the country, with a total population of 201,632. History There was early human settlement in the Loures area dating back to the Upper Paleolithic period, as evidenced by findings at the Cave of Pego do Diabo and the Cave of Salemas. Several Neolithic burial chambers have been identified, such as the Anta de Carcavelos and the Anta do Alto da Toupeira. Loures was a Roman settlement during the 1st millennium, based in a cemetery that eventually became the site of the first church.
