The Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority (JCRA) is the competition, postal, and telecommunications regulatory authority for Jersey, a British Crown Dependency located in the English Channel. Economy Of Jersey
The economy of Jersey is a highly developed social market economy. It is largely driven by international financial services and legal services, which accounted for 39.5% of total GVA in 2019, a 4% increase on 2018. Jersey is considered to be an offshore financial centre. Jersey has the preconditions to be a microstate, but it is a self-governing Crown dependency of the UK. It is considered to be a corporate tax haven by many organisations. Other sectors include construction, retail, agriculture, tourism and telecommunications. Before the Second World War, Jersey's economy was dominated by agriculture, however after liberation, tourism to the island became popular. Mark Boleat
Sir Mark John Boleat (born January 1949, in Jersey) is leader of the Jersey Alliance political party, and deputy chairman of the City of London Corporation's Policy and Resources Committee. He has previously been director general of the Building Societies Association, the Council of Mortgage Lenders and the Association of British Insurers. He is a Common Councilman for Cordwainer Ward and trustee of Centre for London. He was knighted in the 2017 Birthday Honours. Boleat was appointed Chairman of the LINK Scheme Ltd, the company that runs the UK ATM network in early 2017. Boleat joined the board of Arron Banks's Eldon Insurance Service Ltd on 12 June 2019. In the 2022 Jersey election, Boleat ran in the St Clement electoral district and was Jersey Alliance's candidate for the role of Chief Minister. Competition (Jersey) Law 2005
The Competition (Jersey) Law 2005 is Jersey's statutory law governing competition in the markets. On 23 June 2005, the States of Jersey approved the Act. On 1 May 2005, the Act came into force, excluding Parts 2 and 3 of the Act, which came into effect on 1 November 2005. Part 2 deals with prohibiting anti-competitive agreements Part 3 deals with the Abuse of dominance. CICRA
The Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authorities (CICRA) was the name given to the combined Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority and the Guernsey Competition and Regulatory Authority, which operate in the Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Bailiwick of Jersey in the Channel Islands. CICRA existed from 2010 to 2020: the authorities for Guernsey and Jersey now function independently. History Formed in December 2010, CICRA was responsible for administering and enforcing the Competition (Jersey) Law 2005 and The Competition (Guernsey) Ordinance 2012. The purpose of the legislation is to prevent consumers being harmed by anti-competitive or exploitative behaviour in the market. The decision to form a joint body was taken because of the similarity of needs and the reduction in duplication through economies of scale. Resources available to CICRA were limited. Guernsey
