Jersey Alliance
The Jersey Alliance is a centre-right party in Jersey, formed in 2021 by States Assembly deputy Gregory Guida to compete in the 2022 general election. From the party's founding in 2021 until the 2022 Jersey election, Jersey Alliance led the Government of Jersey with party member John Le Fondré serving as Chief Minister. In 2022, Mark Boleat was appointed as the leader of the party and nominated to be the next Chief Minister. Mark Boleat
Sir Mark John Boleat (born January 1949, in Jersey) is leader of the Jersey Alliance political party, and deputy chairman of the City of London Corporation's Policy and Resources Committee. He has previously been director general of the Building Societies Association, the Council of Mortgage Lenders and the Association of British Insurers. He is a Common Councilman for Cordwainer Ward and trustee of Centre for London. He was knighted in the 2017 Birthday Honours. Boleat was appointed Chairman of the LINK Scheme Ltd, the company that runs the UK ATM network in early 2017. Boleat joined the board of Arron Banks's Eldon Insurance Service Ltd on 12 June 2019. In the 2022 Jersey election, Boleat ran in the St Clement electoral district and was Jersey Alliance's candidate for the role of Chief Minister. A bailiwick () is usually the area of jurisdiction of a bailiff, and once also applied to territories in which a privately appointed bailiff exercised the sheriff's functions under a royal or imperial writ. The bailiwick is probably modelled on the administrative organization which was attempted for a very small time in Sicily and has its roots in the official state of the Hohenstaufen. In English, the original French ''bailie'' combined with '-wic', the Anglo-Saxon suffix (meaning a village) to produce a term meaning literally 'bailiff's village'—the original geographic scope of a bailiwick. St Clement, Jersey
St Clement (Jèrriais: ''Saint Cliément'') is one of the twelve parishes of Jersey in the Channel Islands. Its parish hall is around south-east of St Helier. The parish has a population of 9,221 and is the second most densely populated. Located on the south-east coast of the island, stretching from Le Dicq in the west to near La Rocque in the east, it is the smallest parish, with a surface area of just 2,440 vergées (4 km2). The parish is largely suburbanised, with a large spread of post-war low-density housing development. There is no easily definable centre to the parish. Trinity (french: La Trinité, Jèrriais: ''La Trinneté'') is one of the twelve parishes of Jersey in the Channel Islands. It is north of St Helier. Connétable (Jersey And Guernsey)
Connétables in Jersey and Guernsey are the elected heads of the parishes. They are often called 'constables' in English. The constables are entitled each to carry a silver-tipped baton of office. Jersey In Jersey, each parish elects a constable for a three-year mandate (four years until 2008) to run the parish and also represent the parish in the legislature, the States Assembly. There are 12 Connétables one for each of the ancient Parishes. They are members of the States Assembly along with this political role they hold power of a police officer as part of Honorary Police system of Jersey. John Le Fondré
John Alexander Nicholas Le Fondré is a Jersey politician who was the fourth Chief Minister of Jersey. He entered the States Assembly in 2005 as deputy for the Parish of St Lawrence, and was re-elected to this position in 2011 and 2014. During his time as deputy he served in various roles in scrutiny and as an Assistant Minister. At the 2018 general election, he was elected as a Senator, and subsequently defeated incumbent Ian Gorst for the position of Chief Minister. While Chief Minister, Le Fondré led the island's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the 2022 general election, after serving one term as Chief Minister, Le Fondré lost his membership of the States. The ''Jersey Evening Post'' (''JEP'') is a local newspaper published six days a week in the Bailiwick of Jersey. It was printed in broadsheet format for 87 years, though it is now of compact ( tabloid) size. Its strapline is: "At the heart of island life". 2022 Jersey General Election
The 2022 Jersey general election was held on June 22 to elect the 49 members of the States Assembly. Timeline In March 2021, it was announced the election could be held in June, rather than as regular in May, to minimise the impact of the four bank holidays which would fall during the election campaign period otherwise. The election purdah period began on 10 May 2022, limiting the activities of the Council of Ministers to business as usual activities. Electoral system The 2022 elections are the first to be held under a new electoral system. Under the system, the role of Senators is abolished and replaced with 37 Deputies elected across 9 districts via plurality block voting. The election of one Connétable from each of the twelve parishes is maintained. Channel 103 is an independent local radio station broadcasting to the island of Jersey on 103.7 FM and DAB+ digital radio. The station launched on 25 October 1992. Channel 103 is part of Tindle Radio, which also owns Island FM in Guernsey and Midlands 103 in Ireland. According to RAJAR, the station has a weekly audience of 52,000 and a 29.1% market share as of December 2022 - the highest of any local radio station in the British Isles. In late 2020, Channel 103 became a part of Bauer's Hits Radio Network for commercial sales. It remains owned by Tindle with no shared programming.
