Jerez Peak
Jerez Peak ( bg, връх Херес, vrah Heres, ) is the ice-covered peak rising to 1400 m at the south extremity of Ravelin Ridge on Clarence Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. It is connected to Mount Llana by Soyka Saddle, and surmounts Treskavets Glacier to the northeast and Highton Glacier to the southeast. The peak is named after the Spanish mariner Gregorio Jerez who made the second sighting of Roché Island (South Georgia, named by him ''Isla San Pedro'') in 1756. The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) is an interdisciplinary body of the International Science Council (ISC). The Antarctic Place-names Commission was established by the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute in 1994, and since 2001 has been a body affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria. Anthony de la Roché (spelled also ''Antoine de la Roché'', ''Antonio de la Roché'' or ''Antonio de la Roca'' in some sources) was a 17th-century English merchant born in London to a French Huguenot father and an English mother. Highton Glacier () is a glacier on the east coast of Clarence Island in the South Shetland Islands, south of Sugarloaf Island, flowing northeast to the sea. Called "Stamina Glacier" from the stamina needed to cross it by the Joint Services Expedition to the Elephant Island Group, 1976–77, it was named by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee in 1980 after Commander John E. Treskavets Glacier ( bg, ледник Трескавец, lednik Treskavets, ) is long and wide glacier on the east side of Ravelin Ridge on Clarence Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica situated north of Highton Glacier and south of Orcho Glacier. It drains the slopes of Jerez Peak, flows northeastwards and enters the Southern Ocean south of Gesha Point. The glacier is named after the settlement of Treskavets in Northeastern Bulgaria.
