Jeonju International Film Festival
Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF, Korean: 전주국제영화제, Hanja: 全州國際映畵祭) is an Asian film festival. It was launched in 2000 as a non-competitive film festival with partial competition. It introduces independent and experimental films to focus on the alternative course of contemporary film art. In the first edition of JIFF, debut films of Darren Aronofsky were introduced to South Korea. For the first time in Asia, Jiff highlighted early works of Béla Tarr as well. The winners of Jeonju IFF's ''International Competition Section'' include Ying Liang, John Akomfrah and Miike Takashi. Another point of Jeonju is that it produces movies as well. Directors that once invited to Jeonju IFF, were later invited again to ''Jeonju Digital Project (JDP)'' which is a set of three digital shorts. After Yang
''After Yang'' is a 2021 American science fiction drama film adaptation written, directed, and edited by Kogonada. It stars Colin Farrell, Jodie Turner-Smith, Justin H. Min, Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja, and Haley Lu Richardson. The plot follows a family's attempts to repair their unresponsive robotic child. The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on July 8, 2021, and was released on March 4, 2022, by A24 and Showtime. It received generally positive reviews from critics. Plot Jake and Kyra live with their adoptive daughter Mika and Yang, a previously owned robotic child they purchased from certified reseller Second Siblings, rather than from his original maker, Brothers & Sisters Incorporated. Partisan (film)
''Partisan'' is a 2015 Australian film directed by Ariel Kleiman. The film stars Vincent Cassel as Gregori, a cult leader. The feature marks Kleiman's directorial debut. Kleiman wrote the film with his girlfriend Sarah Cyngler. It premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. Plot Gregori, who operates as the patriarch to a "family" of child assassins, adopts Alexander after seeing his mother, Susanna, without a partner at a hospital. Eleven years later, Alexander is an adept assassin running missions with other future child assassins adopted in the same manner. Gregori tells the children the world is full of terrible men which is why they must carry out their missions. Jang Jae-hyun
Jang Jae-hyun (born 1981) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. Education and career After graduating from Sungkyunkwan University's Department of Film, he graduated from the Department of Film at Hanyejong Film Institute. Jang served as an assistant director on the blockbuster period drama '' Masquerade'' (2012) before breaking out with the short ''12th Assistant Deacon'' (2014) which won Best Film in The Extreme Nightmare section at the 13th Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival, and Best Director Award (Korean Competition For Shorts) at the 15th Jeonju International Film Festival in 2014. Ryoo Seung-wan
Ryoo Seung-wan (born December 15, 1973) is a South Korean film director. Early life Ryoo Seung-wan was born in 1973 in Onyang, a small town in South Chungcheong Province. With the choice of domestic films mostly limited to propaganda and hostess films due to extreme government censorship, young Ryoo often opted for the more kinetic and free-spirited action films from the Shaw Brothers canon. Kang Jin-a (born August 18, 1981) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. Early life Kang graduated from Hongik University's Department of Visual Design in 2004. ''Dear Dolphin'' () is a 2013 South Korean romance melodrama starring Lee Hee-joon, Lee Young-jin and Han Ye-ri, co-written and directed by Kang Jin-a in her directorial debut, it explores the themes of life, love, and grief. Jang Kun-jae (born November 26, 1977) is a South Korean film director, screenwriter and cinematographer. Jang debuted with ''Eighteen'' (2010) which won the grand prize win as part of the 2009 Vancouver International Film Festival's Dragons and Tigers Award. Ann Hui On-wah, (; born 23 May 1947) is a film director, producer, screenwriter and actress from Hong Kong who is one of the most critically acclaimed filmmakers of the Hong Kong New Wave. She is known for her films about social issues in Hong Kong which include: literary adaptations, martial arts, semi-autobiographical works, women's issues, social phenomena, political changes, and thrillers. O Muel
O Muel (born Oh Kyung-heon in 1971) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. He wrote and directed the award-winning film ''Jiseul'' in 2012. Career O Muel was born and raised on Jeju Island, and studied Korean painting at Jeju National University. In 1998, he became the director of the Jeju-based culture collective Terror J and organized an annual street art festival called Flower for a Head.
